52" spring conversion

i see that this site clearly explains how to do the 52" front spring conversion but i was wondering if maybe instead of cutting the brackets and moving them if you could take the top leaf from the existing front spring and use that instead of the top leaf for the 52" rear spring?

If you used a stock 47in main leaf (top) you haven't converted anything. The idea is to use a longer, read that, more flexable spring.
