52\" spring swap??

I have tried the search and we all now that sucks so here is my question, I want to swap in 52" springs up fron and I was wondering if I have to do anything major to the steering since it moves the axle?? or do I have to go crossover?? also how do you mount the 52" springs up front, can I just get a longeer shackle and have it lean towards the rear or is this not acceptible??
Thanks
-Chris

Re: 52\" spring swap??

You can search zcarzar(sp?) sandmans and jjlaughners post.

You need to swap the front spring hanger mount forward and then make a longer shackle.
Most go to crossover do to the flex you will get out of the springs.

Re: 52\" spring swap??

What can I expect to pay for crossover steering for a front 10b??

Re: 52\" spring swap??

between knuckle work and box(or shaft) and both arms and drag link...I have $300 into mine.

Re: 52\" spring swap??

thats not to bad, where can I get this stuff?? ORD?? Also what all has to be machined??

Re: 52\" spring swap??

a flat top knuckle needs to be milled and drilled to be able to bolt the crossover arm on it. a ford pitman arm is needed for the 2wd box(or 2wd shaft)
I got my arm off ebay and the 2wd box at the junkyard.
the drag link I got from Sky-manufacturing.
I'd check with ORD, Sky or piece it together.

Re: 52\" spring swap??

can I mount them without moving my front shackle mount?? if so how much will it move my axle back?

Re: 52\" spring swap??

frotn shackle stays int he stock spot, just the front spring hanger moves. if you don't move them you'll be like 1" back, which if you add a zero rate you can end up at 5" lift and .5" forward. with out having to move anything.

Re: 52\" spring swap??

Thats what I was thinking about doing just to make things easier. plus I need all the lift I can get since I plan to go to 38" tires.

Re: 52\" spring swap??

Don't forget your putting a 2.5" wide spring where a 3" wide spring fits.

Re: 52\" spring swap??

The springs themselves are the same width. The the bushings that are different. The stock front bushings are wider than the stock rears. THe rears don't have any bushing sticking out wider than the spring. You have to either build shackles narrower, or cut off that part of an old front spring bushing to compensate.

You can also search my posts. I have ALOT of pictures.

Re: 52\" spring swap??

I guess that is what I was trying to say but couldn't get the right words out my fingers. Either way you need to compensate. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Re: 52\" spring swap??

I just finished hanging mine, for the bushings i called Stephen at ORD and he sent me exactlly what i needed to make it work, i allready had his HD shackles and they worked out as well. If you do not have a 60 and want x over do a google search for shakerbuilt he has just about everything you could need /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
