I have my factory set of rear k5 springs and thinking about putting them on the front of my 91 Dodge. The Dodge is a 4wd cummins and I'm going back and forth on what to do with it. I kinda want to build a beater out of it maybe cut a foot and a half out of the frame and flip the rear shackle, loose the doors and go from there.

So my ? is for you guys and gals that have done it do you think there would be much ill affect from an extra 400 lbs?

The dodge 52 or 56 have a more offset center pin so it moves the axle forward 2 more inches, I would look for 3/4 ton or 1 ton Dodge springs and then you can remove leafs to make it sit right.

Maybe I should explain better. I want to put 52" chevy springs in the front of my w250. Do you think the extra weight of the cummins in the Dodge will be a problem?
Here is the truck!

I feel the blazer 52" springs (5 leaves + an overload) are a little weak for a Cummins. Heck I feel even the 3/4 ton 52" spring (6 leaves + an overload) are too weak for the Cummins.
I would suggest using 3/4 ton 56" springs (7 leaves + an overload) or 1ton 56" (8 leaves + an overload)

linky to the spring rates.

Get a couple packs put em in and add to taste. My leafs (the truck above) came from a one ton truck and they had like 14 leaves in them. Of course those are 56s but you can make one heck of a leaf pack if you have several laying around. Made one leaf pack that had a wagoneer main leaf some dodge leafs some chevy a couple toyotas that was it worked really well.

Well here is the new plan, I think the Dodge will better suited for feeding cattle like orignally built for. But I still want to build a truggy so AFTER the k5 is done I will build this into a beater trail rig. I plan on keeping it street legal so I don't have to trailer it.
Build plans subject to change at anytime:rolleyes:
Move the rear springs up front
shorten wheelbase to 115-120 & 4 link the rear with flat bed
203/205 doubler maybe even machine my own
reverse manual valve body
detroit in the front
38"-40" tires

I paid 1201.00 for this truck and of course I have it listed locally for a substantial profit but hope it dosen't sell. Here is the truck.
