if i swap 52''s into the front and limit my travel can i get away with the stock steering, i have a 4'' arm on it now. i know it will need adjusted, and all that stuff. finances are a little tight for getting crossover right now and my front right spring is broke. 52s are just lyin here

everybody will tell you that you need crossover. i will say that i would advise it, but it is only a myth that it is "needed". here is 52's and push pull.

no myth man my truck had big problems steering in one direction before the crossover swap. crossover is great!!

ok thanks guys, and nove was that just a problem when it would flex or what, it will ave crossover before i get it back out on any extreme trails

manly flexing but there was a little trouble on normal driving. but remember I have 6.5 inches of spring lift on a d60.

I hooked up the stock steering temporarily when I did my 52 swap. Yes it was possible but I had thread the DLEs all the way in so they touched. Even then it barely worked. I would think with your existing steering correction it would actually be even more difficult. Steering to the right would probably be pretty limited. I'm talking strictly street driving. It would be worse on the trail.

Why are you installing the 52s without all of the stuff you need to do it right? I mean what's the hurry?

exactly, wait it out when you can do the whole thing. Bragging right don't do you any good if it won't steer.

thanks for the help, i know it would be better to wait, but my front pass main appears to have a crack in it at the center bole thats begining to spread (1/8") it my dd so i dont want it to cause a rollover when it comes apart. i'm sure it will be ok for 2 weeks till i can afford crossover and some b 52's to do it right, but i do have the 52s, parts and knowhow to to it the cheap way. i was just posting this to see if it was worth considering. worse comes to worse i'll drive the pickup.(its legal, just gets 2mpg, louder than all hell, and the cops love pulling it over for some reason)

There was some link around here awhile ago showing some pretty ghetto way of getting it to work. I didnt read thru it much so I'm not sure how they did it but it was an improvement I guess, wasn't like x over obviously but was functional

hey big dawg. finally someone near me, tarentum, pa. i have 52's on my truck, i could not imagine not having x-over steering on it. it will work with normal steering but it will be so much softer and flexy it will be all over the place.

If your main leaf is about to break, 52's with stock steering is better than a broken main leaf and the resulting accident.
Just take it easy and learn how the truck handles and steers then do the crossover when you can.
I did 52's on my 71 and could very easily have run the stock steering setup on the street, but it would have handled like ass.

Some form of limiting straps would be your friend until the crossover is done.

ok, ended up fixin the main. just replaced it. the blazer will no longer be in my name in a day or so now. tradin it in. pickin up a 2002 longbed ext cab 8 foot bed 4x4 w/ a manual tranny tommorow. i wonder if i can take the doors off of it?

and hey yzeater i live at Zimmermans stone and supply, so if ya ever see the lites on at the shop feel free to stop. we're always up to somethin

I think that's a more extreme change than just swapping in 52s! :haha:
