Hey errbody,

I'm in the process of doin 52" sprin swap on my 78k10. Everything has been perty smooth, got shackle hangers, 7.25" shackles greaseable bolts from DIY4X, and the greasable front bushing set from ORD it of comes with greasebolts.

Smooth as ice, thanks be to you two, yaller right on the money.

The issue I have is the VERY from bolt after swapping the stock spring perch in front of the body mount has quite a gap, after all the other bolts are goot-n-tight.

What's SOP for addressing this??? As y'all might notice the hole pertymuch lines up with that notch in the frame, soooooo, runnin a longer bolt in there will be goofy.

Anywhoo... Like I said to DIY4X and ORD thanks for the quality products it made this part of the project very nice.

GENERAL INFO FOR OTHERS : you need 7/16" grd 8 bolts. and crimp nut's NO lcok washers thay spit out.

And then get some beefy washers to take up and suport the area to fix that problem in the sloted hole. and if you have a welder i would weld the washer in place.

http://diy4x.com/cart/index.php?route=product/product&path=39&product_id=107 see if kirt will do some with 71/16" holes over the bigger 1/2" in them for less play .

On top of the 7/16 bolts already, in everything. Stock hangers, enlarged the holes in the shackle hanger to 7/16 as well. Makes it easier when getting bolts together.

I use a thinner wall bushing and use 1/2 grade 8 bolts. And yes weld in a thick washer with a fairly large OD if you can find them. Or make your own. Get some cold rolled or even hot rolled steel say 3/16 or 1/4 thick, hole saw say a 2" or whatever you think is a good sized diameter to give you good surface area, then drill the correct sized hole on location. Don't forget this trick of mine for the bushings as well.

Read the posts in this thread, there pretty funny. At least mine are  :haha:. I'll let you re-up it IF you want to , ya know, for the new guys here :D.

What's the fix for the top?? Is that where ya use the bigarse washer. Cuz the next issue comes into play that there is a notch in the frame is right about where the bolt should go

not saying your factory parts arnt best . but a diy4x b52 kit would hve been done by now .

you will need to add a filler in that place and weld it in . otherwise you wont get much to hold there with that open gap.

and try searching for 52 swap info in the garage . there is a lot more in there .

i know bout the b52's but i wanted to keep it "low" budget. later down the line im lookin at possibly using their bumper center cuz it's effin sweet lookin, and functional to boot...

Lookin around I couldn't find a part two to the 52" swap tech article, but I'm wondering if y'all could point me in the direction of it.

I'm wondering what my steering solution is gonna be (that is if I can't use the stock stuff for now) since I'm sure the axle center will have moved. I came across a raised steering arm, but dunno if that'll be enuff
