Anyone ever use a set of 54" Tahoe springs in the back of a first gen K5? I see a lot of information on the 52's and 56's, but none on the 54's. Seem plentiful in junk yards and a good way to get newer springs under with a little lift. I have 4" blocks right now in the rear, and was thinking of doing the DIY4x shackle flip, moving them back a little further and running longer shackles for a better shackle angle. Any thoughts?

I just started to see 54's around nor cal too, I am thinking about putting them up front instead of the normal 52/56 swap. The center pin is centered 27/27 if that helps you. I love my 56" springs in the back I am sure you could get some sweet flex and a nice ride with 54's. Do it, it might take a little messing with to get the shackle angle right but thats no biggy

Went ahead and picked up some 54" springs off of a '95 Tahoe today. I pulled the stock spring hangers off the rear last night and pulled the blocks off. I also got the DIY Flip Kit clamped into place, and estimated the shackle angle with the stock 52"s, and I just wasn't happy with the shackle angle, or the axle placement. By doing the flip kit, I lost about 1" of wheelbase, so I figured I'd get about that much back with doing the 54" springs. Plus I hope to achieve a better shackle angle without having to mount the brackets far forward as I would have had to do with the 52"s. Pictures etc. soon..

Made some 4.5" shackles, and got everything all bolted up last night. The wheel is perfectly centered in the wheel well, and everything looks great. The swap netted me .75" of lift (probably will be less once i put some miles on the springs and they settle). With the 4.5" shackles, the angle came out to right at 45°, which I think is ideal for me. Pictures soon..
