A few years ago Popular Hot Rodding followed the build up of a 712 Merlin for Tony Bartone's '69 Camaro. They built it w/ a Mild (For that big of a mill) cam, and dual quads. They had to run duals just to let it breathe. It put out an ungodly ammount of torque throughout the powerband. I think it was over 800 ft lbs from 2500-5500 rpm. They couldn't get the dyno to get a good reading lower than 2500rpm. Could you imagine having 600+ ft lbs right off idle. The thing would bark the tires putting it into gear. They have switched it over to EFI now. Just because a guy races Alky Funny Cars, he thinks he needs all the cool toys. Something like that belongs in the engine compartment of my Suburban.

the crack pipe? well i was actually thinkin of doing this to my blazer. I found out u can get 500 ci caddy engines cheap(400hp550twist stock!!!!) and from what i hear u can do a stroker kit in order to boost the cubes to 540. I probably wont do the stroker kit however im gonna punch the 500 out a bit and try to get around 500-600 hp and around 600-700 twist(goodbye any sort of tranny) w/ some mods like forged running gear, port and polished heads, nice cam, and if i get bored.....NOS. call me crazy(please do ) but its gonna be done by the end of the summer.

Send Sparky87K5 a pm and ask him about his old Caddy motor.
It was making better than 600 lbs/ft of torque under 3000 rpm IIRC.

The one thing he did mention was that because of the much larger crank journals that oil temp over 3000 RPM really went up dramatically.

At any rate he has been there done that and could potentiallly save you some time and or money...

it'll probably happen this summer, i got SATs and wat not to worry bout right now. and still none of you have called me crazy(dissappointed) or maybe cause in the CK5'r sense, im just sane, its the others like those import people or soccer moms who dont even know what horsepower is, just impressed by the massive number that think im insane. btw i've been trying to post more pictures on my members gallery but it was inacessible(i cant spell) last time i tried, i will try again though. mmmmmmmm 4wheel burn out, ill try my best to be the first...
