OK Gents lets kick a dead horse. (83 Suburban 3/4 ton) I have done the home grown front spring mount move to the front of the core support bracket. Installed the 56" springs, and with DIY4X 6" schackles and the rear of the spring sits on the frame. It would appear that (in my un-educated opinion) the front mount needs to move further forward or the rear needs to go back. Problem #2- the closest spot that I see I am able to move the rear hanger to is directly inside the cab support bracket. It appears that with the B52's from Kert my front would be in the same location as they are now in the farthest forward hole but Kert said that Skull Crusher runs the same set up but flipped the B52's to the oppisite side. I still have been unable to see his shackle mounting location. In my current set up I have ran a spring bolt through the hole in the frame inside the cab support and let the weight down just as a guide and the shackle is WAYYYYYYYY to far back. Any info and pics of how you did yours would be very much appreciated.

AND................I have spent a couple of hours total looking for pics of my exact problem before I posted and was unable to find the exact same issue. Just wanted to make that clear. Thank you:D

you're gonna want to get the b52 brackets and mount the spring in either the most forward or second-most forward mounting hole.

Check out Kieth's "Twinkie" build. He did 56" front springs and in post 91 it shows where he moved the front mount. In one pic you can see the body mount in the back and it looks like he just trimmed to fit. clicky

Edit: He may be running longer shackles also.

Thanks for the info and I will check those pics out as soon as I am allowed to do so.

:doah:I forgot that Kieth attaches pics and that you need to be a paying member to view. I know that there are a few others that talked about shackle issues when doing the swap to 56's.......

I dont mind paying but I need to see several more post to make sure that some of the smarta** jerks that are on Pira^#4x4 arent on here. The ones that have to make negative comments on every post that somebody puts up. That got old real fast. People come here to help and be helped not to be run down for asking a question.

You don't need to worry about that here.:thumb: The guys on here are a true brotherhood. If you've got problems there is always a few that will step up to help.

As said before. CK5 is church and Pirate is the bar!

I can say, they arent!

Post up!

I cant help you with your original question, as I've never done 56's on the front, but I can tell you that this place is nothing like pirate :D I'm always amazed by the bashing people give and receive for asking a simple question over there, like already said CK5 is a totally different animal :waytogo: .

Not sure how much it will help, but , there is a recent K5 build with a lot of pics that's running 56/63's
Here's a link .....http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=295287. Starting around post 8

Oh, and welcome !

I'll have to look through my build thread. I'm not sure if I posed pictures or not, but front shackle angle was a bit too steep, but I trimmed the body mount and decided to run it.

I too ended up going with a long shackle, like 7, or 7.25. I don't remember off the top.of my head.

Oh yeah, it was 56s on the front of my burban, with the stock hanger moved forward.

My biggest issue is with the 40s it rubs the Crap outa my inner fender on the front and I haven't fully committed to removing them completely.

6" shackles are too short for 56" springs.
I think most people use 7.25" or something like that.
Mine are 8.25" but they are cross-tied.
You can see some pics of it in the beginning of my build-thread, even without being member I think.

But I have some issues with side-stability, so I might swap to 54" S10-springs someday, just to be able to use a shorter shackle.
Or I might just move the shackle mount some...
...or maybe build a panhard bar....

from what i understand you had the same problem as me with 56"s, and your rear shackles look like this
picture.php

that is with 6" shackles and kerts weld on front mounts like this
picture.php

what i did to remedy was change the rear shackles to 7.25" and still in the stock location
picture.php

and welded extentions on to my front mounts to move them farther foreward as you can sorta see in the above pic. hope it helps

78Chevy that is exactally what I am dealing with. Those pics helped. I guess I need to call Kert back and get the 7.25 shackles. I am still going to do away with the factory mounts and make a bolt in mount using DIY4X spring mounts later but at least this gets it drivable again. My 16yo son is itching to get back in it. It also appears that you are using the conventional steering set up..............did you just change the pitman arm to a 4" lift arm or what?

Correction I have looked at you pics again and see that you have crossover steering. I now need to search for a flattop knuckle for a 10 bolt as well.

Fred M1010 thanks to you as well I was able to see your pics and it was helpful.

no problem, if i can help someone through my issues then its a win/win

To be sure of that see how many of us flamed the guy who thought he had front drums on a 10 bolt, then posted a pic, most of us knew immediately he had discs.

Was a little ribbin fo sho, but no flaming at all.

I will take pics of Keiths burb if my phone will start working, and link it from photobucket

Blazinzuk-------Thank you. I have seen people on here be corrected for what they thought was right but have not seen anybody slammed. I have only come across one curse word in a post but im sure there are more. Everybody on here seems pretty helpful and laid back at this point. It is nice to be able to talk to others with the same interest and share information.
