im puttin 56"s up front and i dont know if the longer side goes forward or to the rear. one side of the stud is longer than the other. also is it possible to use the stock steering with 56's even just for the driveway or does moving the axel forward not allow the stock steering to reach?

If you're using a set of brackets for a 52" swap up front, I would say put the short end forward. I'm guessing the shackles will have to move back quite a ways. I've read on here that crossover steering fits, but stock does not. I haven't done it, just regurgitating.:D

im just using the stock hangers and put the hanger all the way forward. whats the advantages of putting it short forward?

Putting the tape measure to mine, it looks like I could move my hanger fwd about 4". That puts the axle about 2" fwd of stock with short side forward or 2" back with the long side fwd. I would rather have the axle forward of stock than backward due to body clearance, but to each their own.:D

There will be a big difference (4") in axle location pending which way you mount the springs, assuming the front and rear mounts stay at the same place on the frame.

I think in the rear when stock the short is in front of the axle and the rear is longer . Which of course helps fight axlewrap and give a good ride .

Even though the axle is backwards , and when moving forward the front axle is in reverse , I think its still the same anyway

I agree, the big reason for manufacturers using offcenter springs is to keep axle wrap under control while still improving the ride and articulation. That only works when the short end is on the hard mount and the long end on the shackle.:D

no i moved the front hanger forward so the back holes are now where the fronts were. so moved forward about 4"

when mounting 56s in the front end, the long side always points toward the rear, Otherwise you will end up moving the axle back and your tires will be in the firewall. Also depending on where the front mount is, you may not need to move the rear shackle location
