Alright guys I‘ve removed the stock rear shackle hanger and installed my new 56” Skyjacker 4” lift springs in the front hanger. I’m trying to figure out the correct location to put my DIY4X shackle flip brackets. I don’t want to turn my frame into Swiss cheese trying to get the right shackle angle. I was thinking of trying to install them with the shackle completely vertical with the weight off and see that that would end up with once the weight was back on them. Who else has done this on their 1st gen? How much does the shackle move once the vehicles weight is on it? Is there a good way of doing a temporary mock up before I start drilling holes?

Is there a way to install them without drilling ANY holes? ie. re-using the factory rivet holes from the rear hangers?

If so, the first step would be to install them in the factory position and put all the weight on the springs to see where the angle is.

From there, a careful set of measurements should allow you to determine how far off you are, and then calculate which direction it needs to move....and how much. You should be able to get whatever angle you want if you are willing to re-drill holes in the frame.

DIY4X shackle flips install in the factory rivet holes for the rear hanger....this is for both a 52" and 56" configuration. To run 56's you have to swap the brackets side to side. Normally with 52's, the bushing eye is closer to the front of the truck. With 56's it's closer to the rear.

I’ve read about switching sides on the 73-87 brackets, but when I talked to Kert he said it wasn’t the same for the 1st gen. His recommendation was to keep them on the correct side and drill new holes.

I was gonna reply again about having seen it on 73-87s. Hadn't seen a 1st gen, but assumed it would be the same. It's been a while since I put mine on with 52s. I guess the bolt placement isn't quite symmetrical on the 1st gens.

I'll get some pics and post them up for you guys. Basically since the springs are 4 inches longer I drilled the holes exactly 4 inches back from the stock location. It got me around a 10-15 deg. shackle angle. If I were to do it again I would have measured 3 1/2 inches back to get a few more degrees.

Just an FYI for the guys looking to do a shackle flip and 56" spring swap. The ORD shackle flip can be swapped sides and fit 56's no problem. I am running that setup with 6" DIY shackles and it flexes awesome.

Yeah i know plenty of guys who have just switched the shackle flip from side to side on both 1st Gen's and newer blazers.

I think the trouble with DIY's flip has to do with the holes on the bottom of the frame not lining up when you swap sides.

Don't know about the DIY flip, but I just swapped my ORD from left to right.

Here's a picture of the shackle angle I ended up with. It's somewhere between 10-15 degrees. I was hoping it was going to settle a little more. The springs are new an have about 50 miles on them so it is possible.

The angle is a Little on the straight side but a longer shackle would help it out.
Also how much did the springs compress when you put it down on the ground. you want the shackle at 45 deg with the main leaf flat where that works out to at ride height is just where it has to be.
The springs look like they have a lot of arc so the up travel will be alot and push the shackle back.
