just put a set of 56"s under my cucv, i used b52s in the furthest forward option, as well as 7.25" shackles, and was wondering if anybody else has had the same issue i do, i only have about 1/8" clearance between the spring eye and the frame. After looking at a ton of pictures on here i have determined that my frame is taller in that area than a half ton truck or blazer. Im considering notching the area where the spring contacts to give it room for some uptravel, is that a reasonable idea? i'll post a pic once i get past the 5 post rule

Are you talking about the front suspension? I have 57s on a 1985 K30 frame with a little longer shackles and no clearance problems but all my stuff is homemade. Is your shackle angle wrong?

I would say your options are:
1. move the front spring hanger forward
2. move the shackle mount back and down (modify the cab mount)
3. cut and plate the frame for more clearance.

It depends somewhat on your steering and fender clearance.

thats just a 1 ton frame thing. flex it out and flatten that spring, see if you even get close to the frame. your springs look pretty flat now, might not be a real issue.

cant move the hanger forward anymore, in the furthest most forward position on the b52, don't really want to move the shackle and modify the body mount so it looks like i'm going to cut and plate the frame, might decide to move the shackle got to look at it some more

there's less than 1/8" between the frame and spring eye so i definitely have to do something

thanks for the help guys, i'll post back in here and let y'all know how it goes

Saw this a while back but wasn't able to reply due to lack of membership. One of the locals on bgreen's board dealt with this on his tow rig. Unfortunately brook has closed down access without being logged in due to legal concerns (outfit in NV suing forum operators :().

Hopefully nobody minds if I steal a couple pictures off there. Obviously just trying to help people out.

Here's the thread, but like I said, you won't be able to log in without signing up. More to give credit than anything. http://www.alaska4x4network.com/showthread.php?t=41379&page=2 If you decide to make an account, brook has it set to require sponsorship. I'd be happy to shoot him a PM on your behalf or you could contact him here, his username is the same as his board and pirate, bgreen.

He's running 52"s by the way, but I know I saw him notching his frame somewhere....it's been a year or so since I read through his thread.

Glancing through his thread again, it looks like the crewcab frames are 2 1/2" taller than single cab 1 tons. I remember he cut a chunk out of the bottom of the rail and then plated the bottom horizontal plane back in above where it was. It looks like the pictures are dead links now though, sorry.

His username over on alaska4x4network.com is johnny wick if you make it over there to ask him any questions.

I can not guarantee 100%, but I am 99% sure you will not have a problem, your springs are almost flat and you will not gain any more length when they do get flat so your springs should not touch the frame even with just a 1/8" gap.
To know for sure put some playdo on the frame and jump up and down on the bumper trying to cycle the springs and see if the playdo is indented or not.
D onot touch the frame if you don't really need to.
