I'm doing a 6.0l swap into a 72 Blazer. The previous owner already did a 700r4 swap in it. Installed the Dirty Dingo crossmember and mounts but the engine hits the firewall before it buts up to the trans. In need of some input on what my next step should be.

Are drive shafts already made? If so, adjust the firewall. If not, move the transmission forward. Only 2 options you have

He spent a bunch of money of custom slip driveshafts.

Hammer surgery is in your plans. My bet will be mostly near the backside of the driver side cylinder head. That’s what touched on my ‘91 with the engine set in the stock location. It hit the pinch weld on the lower part of the firewall.

As far as using the 700r4 with the 6.0 is doable. However you will be required to run a cable throttle. The next item is a kit from Bowtie Overdrives for a tv cable set up specifically for the Vortec mechanical throttle body.

I ran that exact setup on my 5.3/700 combo for 5 years. Follow the instructions to the letter for install and adjustment. Not having the cable set right will insure quick failure of the trans.

Before starting firewall surgery, confirm that the transmission crossmember hasn’t been moved back.

I’m sure someone else will weigh in, ( @ashman )but I didn’t thing the LS 6.0 needed firewall surgery like a BBC does.

I’d consider pulling the transmission, bolting it up to the engine, and trying to install as a unit. Once you have the engine in the motor mounts, see how far off you are from the trans crossmember.

I didn't hit the firewall with my 6.0, but I honestly can't remember what I did with the transmission crossmember. I've changed it several times since then, so can't recall. Honestly, it's super easy to move though, so I'd just pull the transmission up to the engine and go from there.
