im looking at getting a newer silverado 03,04 ish wanted to know whats the mileage difference between the 5.3 and the 6.0 is? got a buddy that says he gets like 12 with the 6.0 is that about right? input would help. thanks cody

are you talking 2500HD vs 1500? There isn't a direct comparison. My dad gets 10-14, usually the lower end of that, with his 04 6.0L. But that is a 2500HD utility body truck that he drives hard. Bigger trans, axle, and everything = less mileage. 5.3Ls usually get better mileage, but they don't come in 2500HDs, just 1500s. 6.0L 1500s are hard if not impossible to find. They were an option with the Vortec MAXX package, but not sure what year that was first available. I know my buddy had an 03 and couln't get a 6.0L in his 1500. But the 5.3L was great.

What will the truck be used for? I'm guessing DD with light towing here and there? I'd consider a 1500 with a 5.3L. My Dad and I tow at least a few times a week, the 6.0L is nice, Duramax would be nicer.

I have an '03 CC SB and my dad has a '02 EC SB, both 2500HD, 6.0L, 4L80E, 4wd. They both get around 15 mpg combined driving.

As already stated it's hard to compare the two engines because the majority of the time they are drastically different trucks (1500 vs. 2500HD).

just for work, towing boat, ect reason i ask about the 6.0 is there are a crapload of 1500hd so they got the 6.0 . i was trying to compare 1500 vrs 1500 hd sorry for not stating that, little sleep in last 36 hours. i know the 2500 have stronger stuff to make worse mileage just didnt know about how bad a 6.0 would be in a 1500.

My father has a 2500hd with a 6.0L, and he only gets about 12 - 13 mpg. If you've ever driven with my father, you know that molasses on a cold winter day accelerates faster, lol

Mother has a Tahoe with a 5.3L, and she gets about 18 - 20 mpg. Again, she drives really, really easy.

My wifes 2004 yukon denali with the 6.0 gets 14.5 with her driving combo of city and highway. Its all wheel drive, though. Plenty of motor for that truck.

get the 5.3. Better gas all around. If you need a truck for towing then get a desiel. Otherwise stick with the 5.3. I get 18-21 in my 06 crew cab 4x4, really 18-21. Unless I'm towing the blazer then it's 12-14.

how does your truck do for towing???ive seen a few pics of it and i really like it...

If you have to make a living towing then buy a 2500hd. But for as often as I tow the blazer (once a month maybe twice) it does great. I can keep 75 pretty well, and around 2500 rpm. You know it's back there for sure though!!! But for the mpg when not towing it's great!!!

the only mod is a flowmaster. I may get a K/N FIPK kit but don't need it. I don't know blazer: what would you say 6000lbs, trailer 1500-2000lbs and the crew cab another 5 or 6000lbs. Don't quote me. Maybe someone else knows. I do know it's alot
