A neighbor of mine is selling a high mile 99 2500 (non HD type chassis)
8600gvw. he has kept very good care of it, but like typical MI trucks, the cab corners are rusting, otherwise in pretty good shape. I need more balls than my 95 burb has (350).

So do I need to worry about mileage if below 200K?

I think you would be fine for another hundred thou or so and when the time comes for a rebuild the 6.0 will be really cheap at the yards by then.

that sounds good, I know they had a bad rap of piston slap, has that ever turned out to be a problem with them?

I can say nothing but good things about the 6.0's. My father has an 03 2500hd 4x4, he is the original owner , it has been well maintained but has been well used too.
He has towed quite regularly with it, never anything over 10k, but usually between 5-9k loads. It currently has 297,000 on the ticker and runs like a champ. Other then a set of intake gaskets, a corroded TPS sensor and a water pump, then engine has been untouched.
His business partner has an 02 (same thing but 2wd) with 240,000 and his has been trouble free and tows alot with his. His also needed a water pump around 200k and then an alt. at approx 215k, but that has been it.

Hope the info helps :D

my stepdad had a 2000 2500 6.0 that had 295k on it before he traded it in. Used as his work truck and towed often with it. The engine sounded nasty when it was cold, but smoothed out when it warmed up.

I just put a 4L80E behind one in a 2001 K2500HD that had 206,xxx miles on it. Truck was beat to ****, and idling it sounded horrible. It has pulled a stock trailer hauling hogs its entire life. Took it out on the highway for a test drive after the install, and it still ran hard. I was impressed.

I have a 2000 with 110k mi. It developed piston slap around 70k and has gradually gotten worse. It only does it for about 2 min then goes away. Other than that I love it. I've changed the oil every 3k but never show it any mercy. Glad to see guys are getting such high miles out of these.

Sounds pretty good guys, thanks for the input. Sounds overall like durable engine.
And its a 4WD, 4L80E, not sure on the trim level, but it has the aluminum wheels, and the 14BSF 3.73 rear. An extended cab, 3 door, with a fiberglass cap and he wants $4K for it.

This is good to hear as I have an '04 6.0l.

Only 80k on it now. Got it new and plan to keep it a long, long time.
