Looking at a 01 K2500 with the 6.0l in it. Owner says it's using a quart of oil a month and the a/c doesn't work. Asking $5500 with around 230k miles on it. Body is clean and interior is pretty good too. As nice as my 98 XJ is with 250k miles on it I'd wager (have not seen it in person yet).

Is that amount of oil consumption a major problem with a 6.0l or could it be something simple. I've not seen the truck to look for leaks or drips or anything like that. Just wondering if it's worth my time to drive over an hour to look at it or not. Thanks for the input.

Our 03 6.0 truck with ~380k on it only uses approx 1/2 quart between oil changes (3k) so a quart a month seems like a lot to me. We also have an 02 and it uses just about the same with 300 on the clock.

try search over on www.ls1tech.com

and a/c inop on the trucks with low mount pass side compressor first thing i would check is if there is a belt on it . and if tensioner is frozen or broken.

ls motors in trucks run 2 belts . unlike the older stuff all 1 belt.

there is a tsb about oil consumption pertaining to an upgraded pcv valve. Mine has new valve but still goes through a bit of oil in my opinion. 1-2qt an oil change

Its could be something as simple as a new valve cover or as in depth stuck piston rings from oil coking.
Either way I wouldnt be the least bit scared of it,Ive torn down some with 300k+ and they all still had crosshatch in the bores and ran good.
To this day I haven't worked on one that was worn out, they are incredibly durable.

That seems really expensive for a 10+ year old quarter million mile gas truck. I think you could do better if ya' keep looking.

Chevy considers it "normal" for the LS series as well as the 8.1L to consume a quart every 3k. Basically its their way of skating on warranty claims. Same goes for piston knock on the first few years of the LS. Nothin to worry about, not saying ALL do it, but its not surprising to find one that does, runs just the same, just have to pay a lil more attention

I'd like to know who prices a 2001 K2500 extended cab short bed 4x4 for less? Around here GMT400 trucks are still $4-6K.

I think I'll go give this truck a look when I get a chance. Check out the body and chassis and make sure they are rust free. If it's not rusty, it's WELL worth that to me. What I save between it and similar ones people are asking $10k for will buy me a motor or trans if they give up.

It's not the truck itself, it's the miles. That's a whole lotta miles on a gasser.

Fair enough, you guys can have your 250k+ mile gassers but I feel like you're on borrowed time when you get that high. My point was more that you could probably find a truck with half that many miles for not much more money.
