sweet man thats reel cool i should steel the one out of my work truck and put it in my 79 f250 cause thats all i have , right now i just use my work truck for play and work endles gas and no where to go but to work well i should go now cause the boss called and is looking for me in the field i said the i over sleep all the time thnks bill. ont,

Are you serious about that? not that i could aford it any time soon but that might be somthing that could be worked out?
 
I have the 6.0l, in my 01' 2500HD and I like it.
I just got my performance tune about 3 weeks ago from Wait4Me and im VERY impressed with it. The torque management that GM puts on kills the power so much its crazy.
Basically what the TM does is retard the timing something crazy like -13* when you punch it. It is there to make for a softer ride with smooth shifts in the tranny.
With it gone my truck flat out hauls ass, shifts very quick and firm.
I do however wish I had more low end power, it doesnt start making power till about 3500rpm but man once it gets there it takes off:D
All I have done to my truck is the tune, AFE stage II intake, and a catback exhaust.
The intake is a VERY nice setup. The stock air tube is so restrictive. The AFE tube has a special coatong on the inside and there are no edges inside to hurt air flow.
So with just a few CHEAP mods you can get a good gain in power out of these motors.
 
Ryan B, what kind of frame mounts or mods are you doing to bolt the engine to the frame? Any pics?

That sounds like the stock 305 they used back in '85. I'd bet that more than a few people took those a test drive, and felt like popping the hood to see if all eight of the plug wires were actually connected.

I have an 80 blazer(POS 350) sm465/204/14 bolt and i own a 99 6.0L LQ4 COMPLETE with everything, wire harness, computer, accys, airbox, I got the motor mounts fabbed up, but how did you make it run? what did u have done to the computer to ignore the o2 sensors, etc and still run, and who did u have do it, and how much it cost, etc??? Let me know, or ill put a gas guzzling Fo Fity Fo in!
 
That '99 doesn't have the bad ass 317 casting aluminum heads, but it'll do. :wink1: :p:
The first harness i went through current performance, had a few problems but it ended up working out. Then on my buddys 8.1L and this 6.0L i reworked the harness myself. Theres hundreds of wires in that mess in case you haven't noticed. I spent lots of time researching, tracing wires, looking at schematics, and trial and error before we got em working. Your engine is before "drive by wire" so its a little easier and a few less wires.
What a lot of guys fail to realize, "oh yah i got the harness too"... well you need pretty much the entire harness for the WHOLE truck. speartech or current performance can eliminate a lot of it and make their own fuse center with whatever you have and add on what you need. I can make it work with all the factory wiring if you have most of it in tact. Not quite a simple job though. :crazy:
In addition to the engine harness you need the fusebox for in the engine compartment, and the fusepanel inside the cab, then most all the wiring out of that fuse block.. and you also need like all 4 connectors that plug into that engine compartment fuse center. Black, Grey, and the Red, and Green connectors are about half the size. :crazy:

Well i dont have the whole truck, it was a pullout motor(the crank is busted in half, but i have a spare) i just have the wiring that hooks from the ecm to the motor, the engine compartment wiring... why is the fuse box and all that needed???
 
The more harness that is missing, the more you have to figure out and buy wire, splice it in where it needs to go... The Engine harness is the main part of it, everything for the engine is fused through the engine fuse panel. theres a LOT of rework involved if that fusepanel is missing..
It will help if you have everything else and make it less rework in the end.. If your real good with wiring diagrams you dont have to have all the other parts of the harness, its just going to take a lot more time to figure out whats missing, rather than having it all and being able to thin it out some of what you won't use.
Otherwise you can just send it out to some place and fork over $4-500 bucks to have it reworked and $300 for the computer rework.

I personally think its way cool to see a Totally factory harness and fuse panel with the correct cover so its exactly like it would be on that 2004 truck. My k5 harness and setup is more "one off", but my flatbed i could almost take it to the dealership and have it worked on as my "2004 2500 hd." its that factory like. :cool:
I'm missing the red connector on this harness. i figured out how to hook up power and ground where they needed to go, but it would have been easier if i had the connector and wires.
 
BAH, sounds like a royal PITA to me. Oh well... a 454 with glasspacks sounds better anyways :P Who needs gas milage :P

think what you like, when someone pulls up next to you getting twice the mileage, sounding awesome(cause 6.0s with exhaust do), and making almost the same power, it will be funny :D

Who said my 454 isnt gonna be FI? Edelbrocks MP FI system is only 1100 bucks. And a 6.0L puts out 300 hp and 380 Tq... a decent built 454 would be 400-600 hp, and at least that tq, and NOTHING compares to the sound of a 454 with headers and 3 in exhaust :P

I am impressed you got it to spin the tires. The half ton I drove would definitely NOT do that. I really had always looked at the 6.0 as a compromise and you've opened up my eyes a bit. I'd never own one, but at least I have a bit more knowelege and respect for the little guy. Very cool.


EDIT: And, it got me thinking too...a VERY long time ago, I drove a 8.1L crew cab, 4wd, dually and wasn't really impressed either. It might have been around 02. Did the one you did for you're buddy wake up a bit too?
