Putting a deposit down in a couple days on a second Suburban - an unfinished project with a beautiful southern body. This one is a 4x4 with a 6.2 in it, which will save me the hassle of an engine swap. I'll just swap my 87's re-geared D60/14bFF for the ones under it, making the re-sale of my 87 easy. The second truck is pretty complete, but missing the pump.

There's a newer takeoff listed on my local board from a H1 6.5 turbo. Guy says its a 24v, but easily converted to 12v. Questions:

  1. Is it compatible? Is the comment about the 24v to 12v correct?
  2. Since I don't have one at all, is it a good choice? Or should I buy something that will support more power since I'm starting from scratch anyway? This is the more important of the two questions. I don't want to end up dissatisfied with it and have to buy another one later if it can't support any mod I want to make.

The 24v pumps can indeed be easily switched to 12v You have to pull the inspection cover off the top of the pump and change the fuel shutoff solenoid to a 12v one. Biggest problem with this route is finding a 12v fuel shutoff solenoid if you dont have one from your old pump. I would be cautious about the pump, Make sure it is a "DB2" injection pump and not a DB4, DB4 is electronic, less reliable and you would have to run a custom ECM in the truck. Any mechanical pump will have the fuel output capability to put you in the 200-220 hp range with 380-440 ft lbs of torque. With supporting engine mods (turbo, intercooler, etc.). Unless yoou are going to go crazy on internal engine mods I wouldnt exceed this level. Your next step up would be going to a marine pump, which again without supporting engine mods would be a waste.
