alright guys here it is. im a college student and love the diesel craze. this sis what i want to know . i love oddball vehicles and diesels. i would love to build a cummins late model but out of my price range. this siw my question can i build a 6.2 or 6.5 to be a sweet puller. this will DD and tow but i want some stacks and to be able to get that thing moving. so heres what im looking for:

1. build suggestions
2. what you have built
3. ideas
4. hop up parts

essentially what have u guys doen to make these engines perform to the best
 
I wouldn't necessarily choose a 6.2 for a performance build, but plenty of people have done it, and you sound determined...

That being said, you will get decent daily-driver performance out of one with a regular Banks or 6.5 turbo on it. Expect performance similar to a stock gasser 350.

If you want to go further, get marine pistons, lower the compression ratio to about 18:1 (from 22:1), put a stud girdle on the bottom end, new head gaskets, put the most turbo you can on it (think twins) and an intercooler, get a Fluidampr, crank up the fuel, add propane. Just don't expect it to last super long...

Yes, it's pretty easy.

To turn up the pump, you pull the pentagonal side cover on the driver's side of the pump (or the top cover, but with the side cover you don't have to mess with the governor popping out). It helps to have the intake off of the engine when you do this. Then you rotate the engine (by hand using a breaker bar) until a small adjustment screw appears in the window where the cover was. You turn the screw a little bit with a 5/32" allen head wrench to turn up the fuel. 1/8th of a turn should do ya for starters. It would make a lot of sense to get a pyro gage to watch EGT's as you mess with the fuel (keep the EGT under 1100 degrees).
 
What he said +Get an EGT before you turn up the pump. Start with 1/8 turn (many stay there) but don't go over 1/4!:D

depends on how well the engine can effectively translate the extra fuel being pushed through there..if he throws a turbo on it, and turns up the fuel, the hit may not be too bad. otherwise, it's hello carbon buildup and unburned fuel out the tailpipe.

Of course, there IS a way to make more power without having to turn the pump up.. :D
 
i'm going to recheck my fuel mileage today, after using your product for a good time now (infact, it's time to re-order!). i just drove to seattle, and i drove like a maniac because i wasn't paying for the fuel. i did 65mph most of the way up there, and then really had some fun in town...i.e. got the truck sliding sideways as i pulled into the driveway of the hotel. so i wasn't worried about fuel economy on the way up.

at 65mph, my engine is spinning 2558 - pretty damn high for this engine (read: LOUD! w/ no carpet/firewall insulation. :D)

anyway, i got 19mpg. :D i drove much more conservatively on teh way home, and i'm going to check my fuel economy today when i fuel up. when i drove to arizona last december, before using your product, i got 18 mpg at 60mph ALL highway driving. i'm going to suspect i'm at about 21 mpg now after using your fuel additive. :D :D :D even if not, at 19mpg it's already paid for itself.
