6.2 Diesel vs. 350?

id be running no bigger then a 35 inch tire just for DD perpose..

this will be my first truck so i will want to learn how to drive it offroad so power wont be a big deal i guess just some trails with hardly anyrocks mostly hills and ditches.

how bad would you think it would accelerate to get to 60 from 0 if you just slammed on it?

thanks a bunch guys the answers are well appreciated

they go OK...

If I floor My 6.2 in the 82 K20,it takes off fairly fast--about the same or slightly faster than my 79 C10 with a 305 in it does..in fact,my diesel and the 86 305 I have in the other truck are the exact same HP and torque rating-..but drive them both, and its evident to see the diesel has MUCH more low end grunt than the 305,but the 305 will "wind up" higher before shifting..a diesel actually gets up to speed faster if its lugging rather than at a higher rpm...

The diesel wont light up the tires on a fast takeoff like a gas motor will--but if you hold the brake on for a few seconds,it WILL get them roasting!..it sounds more like a backhoe than a truck, but the diesel WONT just sit there and go AHHHHHHHH and not spin the wheels like a gas motor will with high axle gears either...yet you can "feather" the gas and apply the torque smoothly without making the wheels dig a hole and bury you in snow--my diesel is a much better truck for plowing than ANY of my previous gas powered ones by far,and I've had 454's and a 400 SB,they are good too,but they tend to make the wheels spin easily--I can drive my diesel right up a snowbank at a fast idle, with NO wheelspin, and yet it feels like plenty of power..

I guess we could try to explain it all day,but the ONLY way you'll ever know is to DRIVE one!....maybe you could rent or borrow a diesel GM truck like your thinking of,and take it for a few day test ride...thats the BEST way to describe it!...
