Detroit... well almost
Hi all.

I have some swelled tip glow plugs in the engine. I used the method of breaking the plug off, taking out injector, and fishing out the broken piece (vacuum debris afterward) successfully on 2 of the 3 plugs.

The last one broke off too long and cannot be pushed through and retrieved via the injector hole. I was trying to bend it into an L shape so that it would push through with no luck so far. I used a screw driver down the injector hole to try and gain leverage against the glow plug and bend it with some success... but still stuck.

I'm considering putting a ratchet extension in the glow plug hole and using a BFHammer, but I'm concerned about debris and damage.

Any ideas?

Yup. That's how I got the first 2 out.

The last one is too long. It cannot be pushed into the head through the threaded glow plug port.

It can't be pulled out of the glow plug port due to tip bulged.

It's broke now... I did that. Too long to easily extract.

To me it looks like I can try to crush it up into the head (precombustion chamber) with a hammer and a punch... and hope it doesn't disintegrate, or somehow bend it into an L shape so it can be pushed through like the first 2 (if it was curved, it might fit into the available space and get retrieved from a magnet).

I figured somebody else had to deal with this.

Believe it or not, I'm not trying to be confusing. :p:
