my 6.2 is real rough to start at temps 20 and below that, it will fire but will wont start it will chug out each pipe, i cycle the glow plugs and she still wont after the 4th try it will run....the glow plugs are new, the starter turns pretty fast and the batteries are both 800cca. any ideas here..? when its warmer it starts right up it only does it when it that cold, even tried the half pedal and when it fires if you play with the pedal sometimes you can get it around the 3rd try...

Your batteries are very small for a diesel. I normally run 1200cca batteries. Pumping the pedal will do nothing on a diesel, you should be holding it to the floor until it starts at 20 deg though.

Also, clean battery connections are very important for you right now. 2ga or bigger wires will make a difference over stock as well.

the wires now are 2 guage, but the idea with the batteries i can see would be a good idea...so you have 1200s in your truck..?....how big were the stock origional ones..?

The stock ones I believe were 750, but the cold is one thing that wasn't in mind when it was built.
I had 1100 in mine, now with the 28mt you could be fine with the stock size, but like kenny said you need to put the pedal to the metal when starting it in 20 degree weather.

Then I would make certain all of your connections are clean and greased with dielectric. Other than changing to bigger batteries or a 28MT starter, push the pedal all the way to the floor when starting.

ok its 25 here now i gota start er up now.......ill let you know if the pedal to the floor helps, the connections are all new and greased....the starter and the alt are new also...

If I remember right he's got a CUCV in which case the stock batteries were over 1000cca.

I had a similar issue last year and put in new 1100cc batteries and new Wellman glow plugs. Mine is still 24v start. Went from chugging like yours to roaring to life ASAP.

where do i get those glow plugs..?.........i heat mine manual tho...my truck was missing the controller and card..

was 24 i converted it to 12v but i put a new starter on that a local guy rebuilt to be the same as the 24 v starter.....

So wait...you're running a 24v starter with 12v of juice?

no......i got a 12v starter and had it made to have the torque and power as my 24 volt one( the 12 volt burned up and one alt burned up , i didnt have the cash so i had to convert it to 12..)
