ive done a bit of searching and havent found what i needed yet... is there a good 6.2 swap info thread here? if you could point me too it id apreciate it... now... the real question... has anyone ever tried to use an nv4500 behind a 6.2? i know they were used in chevy trucks from 92 on.. but would the bell housing be the same? what would be required to swap this in? assuming its possible.. also, the nv4500 i have is 32 spline, does anyone make an adapter to bolt my 208 tcase to it (32 spline from behind a th400) or will i even need one?

The 6.2 has the same bell pattern as any other small/big block V8 or straight six,& 4.3,so that wont be an issue...a NP208 for a TH400 will have a 32 spline input, but I dont know about the adapter you'd need between it and a NV4500,you'd have to use whatever came on the tranny originally, and I am pretty sure only one that was in a 4wd will work,2wd trannies had different output shafts ,I'm not very experienced with "newer" stuff past 1987...someone else here will probably be able to help you better than I on that question..

thats what i assumed... i mean... i didnt think a 92 truck would have a different bell housing.. but, i've also never seen a stock nv4500 truck either... im thinking im going to have to get a np205 32 spline, because i cant seem to find an adapter out there for the 208 32 spline.... what flywheel are people using for this though? would a 6.2 sm465 and nv4500 clutch work?

I've read here the clutch will interchange between gas and diesels, but I own 2 trucks with 6.2's and automatics so I have no personal experience to pass along....I have a NP208 with 32 spline input for a spare for my '82 k2500 ,it was for a TH400 ,the adapter is still on it for one,and the SM465 tranny also uses the 32 splined input also, but uses a different adapter than the TH400.....I dont know what a NV4500 tail housing has for a bolt pattern, whether its the same as one of the automatics or the SM465,I think its unique but I could be wrong,I haven't seen enough "later" trucks to be very well versed as to what you can put together like I am on older trucks..

The output adapter on the NV4500 is the somewhat generic 6 hole round style. If your 208 has the round 6 hole pattern it should bolt right up. The only probable small issue is the 6 hole pattern isn't 100% symmetrical and the NV4500 was never used in a passenger drop application. You'll probably have to oval one hole on the output adapter.

A stock NV4500 will bolt up to the 6.2 no problem, but the slave cylinder and lines end up directly above the front driveshaft. I used an aftermarket bell from Advance Adapters. It ran me about $400.

Rene--not to sidetrack, but could a old style mechanical clutch linkage bellhousing be used on a 73-87 square body truck instead,to get around the hydraulic issue?..??..I may be tempted to shove a SM465 in one of my trucks someday, and know where I can get the whole setup from the flywheel back off an older truck,I know I'll need a 6.2 flywheel as they differ from gas engined ones..

The SM465 and NV4500 have different bolt patterns on the back side of the bell housing. You can re-machine the bell to fit though.

If you want a SM 465 behind the 6.2 then yes...remember the 6.2's exhaust is identical to small block exhaust in location and that'd be the only thing potentially in the way regarding the bell crank portion of the mechanical linkage. The SM 465 I originally had behind my 6.2 was mechanical. I only upgraded to hydraulic when I swapped in the NV4500.

Thanks Rene!...I suspected the old style bellhousing would work with a SM465,I was not sure about the NV4500 ,I have yet to even see one up close yet--not many in junkyards here, most trucks have them missing before they get hauled in I guess....not sure if I'll ever even get to put my Burb on the road now, never mind swap a manual tranny in it...might be forced to sell it .....:doah:................................................................................................maybe if I decide to retire the 82 K2500 ,I could swap the plates over, and just use the TH400/NP208 from that in the Burb...depends on how long my mom hangs on here--my plow truck will be lucky to make it thru another winter.....once she is gone I will be too most likely, and I wont need a plow truck if I'm not living here....

i picked up the bell from them, and from the looks of it, i should be able to slightly oval one of the holes on the adapter and make my tcase work... wont know till i try though... unfortunately this project has to get put on the back burner, since we're real slow at the shop right now i cant really invest anything in it right now... just a few more months right? haha.... right....
