Just got my bad engine pulled and need to decide which to use on the rebuilt one.

What are the pros and cons of each?

I wasn't aware you could get headers for a 6.2...

I have enough trouble keeping a set of cast iron stock manifolds from rotting off my diesel here, headers might last a year or two at most I'd say...I wouldn't want them, after my experiences with them leaking at the collectors and at the heads and rusting away rapidly on a few 350's I had them on...the slight performance gains wasn't worth that for me...

My 82 K2500's cast iron manifolds are crumbling into dust, soon they will be letting exhaust escape and become noisy...it looks to me like it'll be a real bear to get them off with the engine in the chassis,I'll likely have to saw them off with a sawsall, the bolts have heads like rotten rivets and are directly in line with the frame rails,so it'll be no fun to remove them ,when no box end wrench will grip them, and no room to use bolt out extractors,etc...between that job and needing the oil pan replaced I may end up just pulling the engine out or at least halfway..and I'm NOT looking forward to it ,beleive me!..

Are you eluding that that header will fit on the engine pictured with the cast manifolds? Because it looks to me like the mounting flange bolt arrangement is different.

Did 6.5s come with those headers and a different mounting flange bolt arrangement? Or is this going to be some made custom flange affair...

EDIT- Nevermind.. I'm retarded. Thought I remembered that the manifold bolts on my 6.2 were all in a straight line, and not staggered up and down. It also looks that way in your first pic, so that didn't help.

This entire post is officially worthless, and I'm sorry lol.

Living in Southern California, I don't have any rust worries. When I said headers, I meant the second picture, they came on the '86 engine I bought from GL.

Sorry about the angle on the cast manifold picture, it was late last night and I came home to the engine on the ground, a couple buddies came over and pulled it while I was at a BBQ.

The picture of the header looks like the driver's side from a Hummer...the question is what does the passenger side header look like? There are fitment issues when trying to use stock Hummer headers in this body style of truck.

Stans or someone makes actual headers. Just go stock driver and a pass banks manifold with a hx35.

Must be rough lol. Wish I could come home and find all my dirty work done for me ;)

I was pleasantly surprised, they said it was my Fathers day gift. I guess the case of beer gone from the fridge was theirs.:haha:

I'm a stock cast iron manifold guy. Guess I'd go with whatever appears to be in better condition.

:thumb: Good to know.

We'll see how she runs N/A (my first 6.2) then make the call from there. Coming from a mildly modified 12 valve, I am sure it is in my near future.

A 12 valve would kick my ass even at 12+ psi (18 right now).

Are the "headers" stainless? I know I saw some stainless headers in the GM parts manual, but they were for a small block. Unaware they made them for the 6.2L.

They came with the engine I purchased from GL out of a Hummer. So, I have no idea, but from the rust on the, I doubt it.

I put headers on my suburban years ago. My seat-o-the pants impression was I didn't think headers made much difference at all at low rpm which is where diesels live. Buut, if that came with it and it looks good I'd run it. Just by looking at it, it seems impossible to flow worse than a manifold. Isn't the turbo in the valley on the hummers?

From my understanding most military Hummers were not turbo'd, especially the pre "up armored" versions.

He verified above that the header is off a Hummer....again, look at the passenger side and you will see that the outlet of the header points straight back and will be against the firewall of the truck.
