6.2 normal operating parameters

Just wanting to see where everyone's oiled pressure is at and temp. I have factory gauges but they work.

My temp is always around 200 I have gotten it up to about 220ish a couple times towing big hills with a trailer. Big like 4 miles and several hundred feet of elevation change.

My oil pressure is around 50 psi when cold and will drop to 40 when temp goes above 200. Thats pressure cruising on the highway. Idle is around 20 ish.

My temp runs just shy of 200* (all flat land around here), my oil pressure readings get weird. I need to hook up my set of mechanical gauges for an accurate reading. Sounds like a project for next weekend...


My current oil readings are "backward"...increased rpm's causes a lower reading, when I let off the accelerator the reading goes up. I'm sure the (factory) gauge is toast.

My pickup rarely goes over 200 degrees,but I never go far on the highway or tow anything either...I have the oil cooler "deleted",I made a by-pass loop to join the two hose ports on the block together...
My oil pressure gauge needle has always "flickered" rapidly once the oil warms up--when cold the pressure is over 45 psi,sometimes as high as 60,then as it warms up it drops to about 25 at idle...I suppose the sending unit or gauge must have some defect to make the needle jittery..

In my Suburban the oil pressure is higher and steady,it always hits 60-65 at idle cold,then will only go down to no less that 30-35 at idle hot..the engine sounds a lot "tighter" than my pickup's 6.2 ,despite it having over 150K on it...maybe the timing has been advanced on my pickup,so it rattles louder?..it seems to start easier and have more "pep" than the Burb..

The thermostat is 195F. Your gauge doesn't have that much resolution to be able to tell the difference.

Oil pressure is excellent.
