Yes. I have low compression pistons in my engine. Dropped down to 18.1 to 1 from the stock 22 to 1. Its pretty much required if you want to run more then 15lbs of boost. You can run that amount of boost if intercooled, but its not usually recommended.
The only downside is cold engine starts. The lower compression and if mixed with a higher fuel rate, I have both, the engine will smoke like crazy the first minute or so its running. The smoke is raw unburned fuel. Once the engine has some heat in it, it wont smoke when restarted. Unless it cools off enough, like sitting 8 hours at work or overnight. Its just the nature of the beast, but I can live with it
. I do know that if/when(I'm NEVER getting rid of this truck
) I need to replace this engine I wont hesitate to put another 6.2 or 6.5 back in. Great motors if used how they were designed to be used.
Even with the added power my engine has the truck can still pull 15mpg in town. Not too bad for a lifted box on wheels
. It could be better but I have a heavy foot. My truck has a 6 inch lift, 4:56s, and 35/12.50R17 procomp extreme a/ts.
