My buddy has an '86 K5 with a 6.2 with an unknown amount of miles. The other day he was driving home from his mechanic and after about a mile he realized he was losing oil. Drove about another .5 mile to a gas station and found the problem, a busted oil cooler hose.

He fixed the hose and added a couple of quarts to it. Tried to start it but it wouldn't turn over. The starter clicks but won't turn the engine. He's worried he seized it driving it that short distance to the gas station. He and I are not very educated on these.

Anybody have any ideas? Could he have seized it? What are we missing? We tried to jump it thinking maybe it was the batteries with no luck. Just clicks.

Help.

Its always possible it seized. But you usually hear loud knocking and noise before it gets that far.
Turn on the headlights, watch them as you turn the key to start and hold it there for a second.
If the lights go real dim, feel of the battery cables and see if they are hot.
If so, then the starter is trying to crank the engine but is stalled. Probably due to a seized engine.

If the light stay nice and bright, then don't worry too much about the engine, just fix the starter or solenoid.
But first, do the first rule of troubleshooting: If it worked before you did something, and not after, look closely at what you did.

Any chance you moved a wire on the starter when you were fixing the hose?
