Ok, First off... a couple years back I was at summit and found a set of flex-a-lite fans p/n 280(Link) which fit a newer chevy truck/suburban etc. I was able to pick them up really cheap. I tend to drive this truck out in the desert a lot and have had some cooling issues with my mildly modded small block in the past on really hot days with the ac running so a bigger radiator isn't going to hurt. There are no current issues with the cooling system that would keep it from doing its job, but I bought these fans and want to use them because I am sick of hearing the stock fan noise.
The core on my 78 is 28" wide. For this fan setup to fit, I would need a 34" wide radiator. I have searched the net and found that a 6.2 rad from an 82 K5 is 34x19(Link)... which should accommodate the fan's requirement of 34x17" just fine.
What I am trying to figure out is, what radiator supports(OEM/fabbed upper and lower and/or rubber pads) would I need to find in the junk yard or truck parts(LMC or the like) to make this radiator fit. I have seen that I can possibly use a upper radiator hose from a 77 trans am with the 400 in it to connect the upper but what lower hose to fit?
I will be removing the a/c condenser and replacing it with a different style so I will not have to worry about issues with it interfering with the radiator.
