Hello,

I replaced the main seal today. Was wondering if I should have put RTV between the 2 pieces. Pan is still off so it would be easy enough to get to.

Thanks

I also messed up a bit on the seal. nicked the outside edge on the block a tiny bit. I pulled it out and put it in from the other side.

Should I call that a practice run and just get a new seal? I thought it would hold. would rather spend the money now rather than redo everything later.

If you think you messed up, get a new seal and do it again. Too much work to re-do if it leaks when it's all back together.

When I did mine I did a thin line of rtv from the seal halfs out to the gasket area for the pan. My biggest worry was making it too thick and affecting bearing clearances.

I made a small wooden tool to push the upper seal half through using some small dowel stock. A bit of grease on the seal helped a lot too.

Mine didn't leak again after.
