I was looking at a truck that has a 6.2 motor. It has a broken starter bolt.

Are there two patterns of starter mounts like a SBC, or does the one really need fixed?

Is this a common problem?

The truck would be a steal, and comes with another 6.2 and tranny....

Should be fixed. If only the bolt broke, you should be able to remove it with the right tools.

Did your starter come with the rear bracket? Nearly every 6.2 with a broken starter bolt I've heard of, is missing this bracket (there must be a huge load somewhere . . .).

6.2's will break starter bolts if it missing the starter bracket. It helps keep the starter from twisting when cranking.Broken stater bolts are usually easy to remove .Just remove the starter and use a EZout to remove the broken bolt.

Thanks....

$500 for a 6.2 T400 probably NP208 w/spare motor and T700R4 should be a good deal then....

starter bolt.

I just had to remove a starter bolt from my block a month or so ago, luckily it was the hole that went all the way through. Unluckily..... i broke an easy out in the bolt, so i hit it with a hammer and pick for 4 hours and knocked everything out. Just remember to go to the chevy dealership to get the new starter bolts for the 6.2, autozone idiot said that theirs would be the same as a gas eng. chevy....... they were wrong. then i ended up going to the frieghtliner repair shop and got a burly grade 8 bolt and lock nut and just bolted my starter up to the block.
