So the truck that I purchased has what appears to be a 1997 6.5 block (ID via block numbers). This motor is odviously computer controlled in its stock application and in my vehicle it is not.

My guess is that just the 6.5 block was used and all the 84 6.2 accessories were bolted to it. This is all fine and dandy to me but I am curious (being a diesel newbe) if there is any difference on the IP and injectors between the 84 6.2 and 97 6.5. Now I know they are different due to computer controls but is there a difference in fuel flow? for example will the 6.2 IP and injectors feed the 6.5 to its full potential or am I leaving the extra 300 CCs of displacement on the table because the IP and injectors are out of steam?

Any insight is appreciated.

Cheers,

Rufus

Yes, the pump and injectors are different from a fuel flow point of view. Mainly geared around the turbo. If you don't have a turbo, use the stock 6.2L pump/injectors. If you have a turbo, use 1993 pump and injectors (first year of the TD6.5L and last year of the mechanical pump).

You are only talking about a 5% increase in engine displacement, and considering the stock 6.2 pump has the capability to properly supply a turbo'd version I doubt there would be an issue with a NA 6.5.
