IN A JUNKYARD, UNDER A TRUCK*N E Rust Belt
I was talking with a fellow near San Diego with a Sub 6.2 he's owned for a few years. It currently won't start. The little info I have is that it spins fast, and he's removed the IP cover to inspect (?) the cold start solenoid. He's sucking fuel from a can.
I'd like to buy the truck, but it needs to run for transport back east... What should I have him look for?

Funny, it's a very similar scenario to this vid I made in May... Thx, Ug

The head gaskets were the prob on the poor runner.

Lo-ball? The seller's on this forum, raising the price as he gets more attached to it. I'd be game, but the bods a little ruff. Take it or leave it, 4x Subs sell. They don't wait for me to procrastinate...

Low ball on the better one. They may go for it:D

Just what he said, I drove it to L.A. and back yesterday, it passed my test on the grapevines:
I got 19 MPG from sacramento to L.A. and back with a couple of hours in traffic in L.A. and going 65-70 all the way even up the grapevine and it was steady up the hill at 200 degrees.
The turbo makes it feel like a BBC gas engine, you don't know it's a diesel except when it's idling you barely hear the clacking.
I am still debating whether I wanna sell it or not, it's everything I ever wanted and I need the money.
I guess when he comes here and drives it by then I will have made my mind.

Yeah, anything's better than my 4.10's and no overdrive...

I have yet to chck the gearing, I suspect 4.10 but it could be 3.73 and it has 33" tires, and for once the speedo is calibrated for the tires, I drove with my gps to confirm it's right on the dot, it varied 4 miles on a 1000 mile trip, so that is 0.4% error.
Another thing I want to add:
I got this truck with one battery, the guy said it does fine with just one.
Well I wanted to see, and so far, in the cold morning at 4 am (OK so only 50 degrees) it starts fine, when it's warm it starts fine.
I will add another battery in the next couple of days but this truck is good and smooth. I like it.:D
