Im going to be buying a 83 or 84 GMC k20 with a 6.2/465/?(not sure on the t-case) for $500 dollars, the guy says it will idle but as soon as ya give it fuel it will die. He thinks it is the IP but I have no clue this is my first diesel.

Thanks,
Craig

The NP208 is the factory t-case.

On the engine running issues look at the simple stuff first, meaning the fuel and air filters, and how long the fuel has been sitting in the tank. Diesels are very picky about these items. Guy in our club bought a CUCV that had been sitting for awhile and started having similar type issues which turned out to be stuff growing in the fuel tank which plugged the filter...this didn't happen right away as I think he had gone through a couple tanks of fuel.

Got my new truck home yesterday, haven't had time to mess with it yet but found out its a J-code motor.

Here are some pics: (it needs a bath)

nice looking truck! Great score. I would change the fuel filter first, then look at the lift pump to make sure your IP is getting enough fuel.

I found out the truck was parked in 2006 and both tanks are full of diesel :eek1:, so what should I do with 40 gallons of diesel fuel that probably isn't any good.

She runs and takes fuel :woot: but it doesn't seem to want to take fuel when ya first hit the loud pedal and then will take off. It seems kind of sluggish too, could it be the lift pump. I haven't changed the fuel filters yet getting ready to run to parts store to get some oil and filter for it.

What should I put in the fuel tanks since it has set a while with around half full tanks?:doah:

Your going to need an algaecide. I don't parts store carry those, standard diesel treatment won't be enough for what you want. We use Killem from FPPF at work seems to do a great job

Change your Fuel Filter fast, and yes some algaecide. Also your Air Filter should be checked.

Then check your pump....

Simple things first..

Thanks guys, changed the air and fuel filters and made a world of difference. Only thing Ive found so far for the tank is Power Service Clean Diesel, put a bottle of it in the tank but going to have to go for a drive to the local truck shop to get some algaecide.

You may want to pick up another fuel filter. All the junk from the tanks I imagine will start to clog your new one pretty quick.
