I finally popped my Diesel cherry in September and bought a 86 K10 with a 6.2 diesel in it. I LOVE the truck but I am starting to have a few issues with it. I was hoping someone would be able to Diagnose my problem for me.

So basically, Whenever I have hard stops, turn fast, sharp corners, or even accelerate fast, the truck stumbles and sometimes even stalls. I can get it started again by cranking it over for about 10 seconds. another thing is when I am driving down the highway the truck will suddenly take off and have a burst of power, almost like flooring it but my foot would be steady on the throttle. and lastly if its anything under 0*C after i start it the truck, it will run for about 5 seconds, then stall... then I have to stay on the starter for about another 10 sec maybe even more to get it going..

I am new to the diesel world and any input would be appreciated.

thanks

Sounds like its sucking air, check all your fuel lines for leaks or cracks.

Welcome to diesel.:D 5-10 seconds of cranking ain't bad at all.

Is your high idle working? If not then your cold advance probably isn't working either. Getting that to work made it about a thousand times easier to start mine in below freezing temps. This doesn't address the fuel issues but it's worth checking out.

Oh and change your fuel filter. Fill the new one with seafoam or marvs mystery oil before putting it on.

mine did that after my gas tank install.. turns out the new line i put on kinked and would only let a little fuel through at a time and did the exact same as your describing. worse tho

I was just gonna say -- Check your lift pump too! My 6.2L surges and generally starts / behaves poorly whenever I rip the wires off my lift pump, or blow the fuse, or otherwise make it stop working somehow.

As a quick update I did resolve the issue. it turns out that the rubber line coming off the frame and to the lift pump was cracked. I replaced it and it runs great! I will be replacing all of the rubber lines in the near future just to be safe. thanks for the help.

welcome to the world of awesome diesel, if you have access (forgot to see if you were a member) one thing i would strongly recomend as part of the freshening up of your new diesel, is a diesel purge. check out the gm diesel forum on here, one of the stickies at the top of the page has a step by step instructions and photos. made a huge difference in the way my truck ran. never was able to do a burnout before, id power brake it and it would just sit there. after the purge, i could get the tires spinnin in a power brake pretty easily.

So, you bringing one of your trucks up to Vega on the 22nd to go wheeling with us? Got at least one other K5 coming :D

The Edmonton Jeep club, probably between 10 and 20 rigs that show up. One other K5 on 37s expressed interest and I am working on a K5 on 35s to come as well. Lots of nearly stock jeeps, but a few are bigger, couple on 37s and above.

Good group to wheel with, and no hoser picking on your truck infront of a camera, great footage of your truck on the TTC vid btw!
