A while back when I first got The Blazer I was hearing a sorta whir noise when I started it up. The thought on here was that either the starter was dying or needed shimming.
Haven't done anything about it but it's doing fine anyways. No changes and it starts every time. Life's getting in the way ya know?
Anyways, while I was downstate my much more engine and drivetrain knowledgeable friend heard it and thought it might be cracking around the flywheel allowing it to wobble as it spun? Does this sound right? He said it was common with them?
The guy knows a lot of stuff, and has rebuilt many SBC's, but I just want to make sure he's not confusing SBC's and the 6.2L like many want to do.
Sorta wishing I had bought that 6.2L 700R4 flywheel from kennyw a year or so ago.

. Problem was that i had a broken starter bolt and NO rear support bracket. I fixed the broken off starter bolt and the broken off bolt in the block that holds the support bracket on, to only have this "grind" noise happen every so often, checked bolts, bracket and everything was fine. Pulled the starter and had it rebuilt, which was well needed, figured the bendix wasn't shooting out fast enough to mesh well with the flexplate. It helped greatly, about a month later it made that terrible noise two more times within a week, a couple days later i went to start it, turn the key and nothin, come to find out my pos. battery cable on one battery was really loose (threads in the side post were stripped) put an adapter on to go to the top post and never had the "grind" noise happen again. I think the loose battery cable wasn't sending the full amount of voltage to the starter and not letting the starter engage quick enough. Just thought i'd share my starter problems and experience with the ear screeching noise.
