I've done my homework when my burb started shifting funny. My vrv is at max adjustment, instead of putting another one on I'm thinking of using the 700r4cable with a mechanical modulator setup.

Anyone here done this before, good idea or not...

My '82 K2500 6.2 with a TH400 never did shift right with the VRV valve hooked up properly,I think it was fubared or cracked --I went to a local tranny guy and he suggested I run the vacuum line to the modulator right to the vaccuum pump, and then turn the adjustment screw inside the modulators hose nipple all the way in till it gently seats, then back off about 1/4 turn..........................................................................................................................................................................................................So far its shifting OK,that was 9 years ago and about 100 snowstorms ago!..it used to hang in second gear way too long and refuse to upshift till I hit 40-50 mph into third, and if you happened to let off the pedal while it was still in second,it would feel like you shifted it into neutral...when it did finally upshift to third gear in went in harsh too...now it shifts 1-2-3 OK,maybe a bit too "early" into third for my preference,if I want it to stay in second longer I just downshift it manually...its held up good so far and I have beaten it mercilessly plowing..supposedly the trans was rebuilt shortly before I bought the truck, whether thats truth or fiction,I dont know........................................................................................................................................................................................................I couldn't find a good used VRV valve or a new one for less than 100 bucks anywhere, and I did think about using the cable operated modulator they put on TH400's with supercharged engines, but those were well out of my budget range too...but one probably would work good once its dialed in right...

I read your solution, it was one of the top search results when searching "6.2l vrv adjustment"

ck5 rawks :waytogo:

did a road trip today, went to va beach & back...I have got to get an overdrive.

My bleeding ears made for a good speed governer..

got 17.8 mpg on the return trip (forgot to set tripmeter on the way up....) I was very impressed. Kept it between 58-63 mph...it would howl any faster than that.

Pretty impressive MPG for a truck thats close to 3 tons with a TH400...what gears are in it??...my "82 K2500 seems to have whatever the highest gear ratio was available that year, its slow to accelerate and I can go 45-50 in second before it sounds like its about to hit the govenors limit..................................................................................................................I never had the diff cover off it yet,no tag,so I'm guessing it has 3.42's???--I think thats the highest ratio they made for a 14 bolt FF ...sounds about the same as my half tons did with 3:08's and non-overdrive trannys..my previous 3/4 ton had 4:10 gears and this one definately isnt that low geared...............................................................................................I've never did an accurate MPG check on my truck but I guesstimate it gets between 15 and 18 mpg going by how long or far I can run it on a few gallons worth of fuel..truck doesnt care if its fully loaded or empty, the mileage stays about the same...much like the 454's I had previously...bet it would be better with a manual tranny...

it has 3:73's (14bsf)...0-60 in about 30-45 seconds , so it's not fast by any means

full disclosure: it's 2wd for now...I have a matching front axle that needs gone through, along with a flattop knuckle that needs machined. I still need front springs & crossover steering. It's just a $$$ thing...:doah:

I have a 2 week break over the Holidays, I'm trying to get everything I need and do the swap then. It's still my dd.

I don't have a gps, I checked the mileage with the tripmeter and the amount of fuel it took to fill the tank back up.
(203/11.4) Mostly highway (US 17). The have most of the bypasses done these days. When I first made this trip in 96, I had to go through every town between here and there...really wasn't fun after a while.
