I was looking for a large aluminum radiator to cool my 89 454 tbi and bought a used radiator that supposedly fits 1996 6.5's and 7.4l gas engines. This radiator has the transmission cooler ports on the passenger side and two nipple for hoses about the size of the heater hoses but no fill cap:eek1:

How are the hoses normally routed and how is this radiator typically filled and is there an overflow bottle? Can I actually use this setup with an earlier 7.4L? Any pics would be appreciated.

P.S.- I plan to run a Taurus electric fan on this.:D

The newer radiators are filled from the overflow bottle.
If you can fit the radiator in your truck you can run it.

It'll Fit

I have a sawzall, so it will definitely fit. However, there are 2 hose ports that could go to an overflow bottle or...? Can anyone enlighten me on how these are normally plumbed? Thanks.

One should go to the overflow tank and the other will probably be a return hose for the heater line. I just don't know which is which. The over flow tank should also have your pressure rated radiator cap. So you might want to find one for the same year as the radiator.

You might want to look at an old body style (94-97) powerstroke ford.
They used a tee in the lower radiator hose with a 1" line up to the overflow or "degas" bottle mounted on the fenderwell.
