So I just got this Sub about a week ago. Yesterday it did a funny thing accelerating onto the highway ramp. It stumbled a little bit while I was holding it to the floor. Now it makes and awful noise when shutting down, kind of a "clack clack clack". When idling with the A.C. on it was making a crappy bearing type noise. If you turned the A.C. up, down or off you could make the sound change. First thought was ac. Did some forum searching and found a guy with identical symptoms. Ended up being the main pulley.

Just read your post. I'm glad you got it figured out. I took mine to the mechanic who changed the A/C compressor, alternator and another engine pulley before he figured it out. Cost me a pretty penny. I cut a deal with him so we both lost out. It's definitely tough to identify the source with running. It sounded like it was an A/C issue because when I turned the A/C off and on it increased the sound. Just the additional load. Lesson learned.

So I went out today and put the truck into the gruge. Got under, grabbed the main pulley and it rotates, by hand, around the rubber center. I guess its kinda a relief, another guy said his made similar noises and replaced balancer and pulley and it was the crank that died. I guess that could still happen to me, though. I am definitely doing the HB and pulley since pretty much everyone aggrees that the HB can destroy the crank.

Moved by hand. Funny thing is the rubber is in decent shape, but definitely not connected to the pulley anymore. It appearantly will run like this since the bolts contact the pulley spokes and turn the belts...

Who's got parts advice?

Orielly, NAPA, and Autozone are all about $60 for HB or pulley.:dunno:

Dealership is $113 for HB and $181 for pulley. Parts look OE so I kinda like the idea of getting something that lasts 16 years.

SSDiesel has pulley and HB for $89 each, they seem like reputable folks.

What really looks intriguing is the Fluidamper HB but its f'n bonkers at $450.:dunno:

Chirp chirp...

Bought the main pulley at NAPA. Made in China. Peeled the NAPA sticker back and found a DORMAN label underneath. Coulda got the same crap at o'reilley for $10 cheaper. So much for "NAPA quality".

I will give them this, at least they're car people. The people at the other stores are basically cashiers.

Unfortunately, almost everything is made in china unless you make it yourself anymore. At least my company still makes products in the USA or I probably wouldn't have a job!
