I have a new engine going into my 96 K2500 Suburban and the turbo was seized so I had 1 sent by a wrecking yard. The problem is that my turbo had a vacuum port for the waste gate and the 1 from the wrecking yard does not. The shop doing the work is very reputable and thinks they can make it work but Im worried. My suburban has a 10,000 lb tow rating and listed the torque at 395. Does anybody know if there is a work around or will I have to get a different turbo?

so the original turbo was internally wastegated?
and the new one has no wastegate?

you can run an external wastegate no problem... But you need to change your turbo manifold if it doesnt have a spot for an external WG. the shop "thinking" they can make it work is a little unnerving.

A buddy of mine has had good success with a spacer like this.

What turbo did they get you? I would have gone for a hx35

All of the GM turbo's are internally wastegated. The difference is that on the '93 model the wastegate is spring-only controlled and the '94 up has a vacuum modulator on it so the computer has input.

Deadguy, you should be able to unbolt the vacuum wastegate from your old turbo and bolt it onto the new one. Should be two bolts into the back of the compressor housing and a spring clip to hold the actuator rod to the wastegate lever.

I'm guessing the turbo you got was from a '93, it's pretty common to swap out the vacuum wastegate for the older model when increasing power output. It will function perfectly as is, but may throw a code.
