I bought a used turbo off of another member, looking at it closer tonight I can turn the turbo but it feels stiff. No slop at all in it that I can feel by hand. I got a good deal if I have to rebuild it or not but I'm trying to figure out which way I need to go...

Turbo should spin freely.

Look at the intake vanes. Are they dirty and greasy? Worn away from the housing? Remember, this is behind the filter so it should be very clean any dirt or grit is not a good thing.

Take the housing apart, it's fairly easy for the intake side. The cast side can get pretty rusty so use a good penetrant and let them soak. Be very careful when you pull the housing the vanes and shaft are delicate, one drop and it's over:doah:

If it doesn't loosen up after cleaning you should consider sending it out.
