i figured i would ask some of the most knowledgeable people around about lift kits for my blazer. i will be getting a 6" lift for my 84 blazer in a few months, hopefully. i was wondering what a good brand is, and where i could find the best price on said lift?

i'm looking for a decent road ride and something that would be able to do some offroading as well. i don't need crazy flex as i won't be going over rocks and doing any crawling.

it'll be supporting my new to me 14 bolt and d44 drivetrain.

this brings me to my second question. about how much would it run me to get 3/4ton axles lengthened/shortened to fit the needs of my blazer? i got the number of a place the next town over but they're not open. anyone have a ballpark estimate of what it would cost for this, along with balancing?

The Springs are a matter of opinion thing and will likely never get resolved. Check out the spring rate table on this site to help you determine how soft or firm you want to get to. As far as the lengthening question i think you were referring to driveshafts. Locally here in the Sacramento , CA area its generally an hour of labor plus material to lengthen and balance. I just had mine lengthened, 35$ in material and an hour labor, i think that was 70$. If you have a wrecking yard nearby and if your blazer does have a NP208, go out and grab a CV driveshaft off a cadillac from the 70's(eldorados are good cantidates) with a TH400.Take the entire assembly to the driveshaft store, either install a conversion u-jount at the 14bolt end of your new shaft, or have a new end welded on to accept the larger u-joint necessary to hook up to the 14B.if it is a full float version. I have no idea what a SF14b u-joint size is .

okay i'm just looking for a spring that will give close to stock ride comfort, just don't know where to go for good deals.

and for the driveshafts, i'm using the driveshafts out of the k20 for a bit of extra strength, and i'm using the np205 out of the same k20. i'm gonna be getting a 700r4-np205 adapter. i'm pretty sure the 14 bolt i have is full float as well, i haven't found anything while researching that has said it isn't.

as for the lift kit, even though my truck is technically half ton, would i need to order a 3/4 ton lift kit to accommodate the axles? for correct u-bolt sizes as well as the steering arm.

With a 6" lift, you are going to get a harsher than stock ride. You can go with a 4" shackle flip in the back. This will allow you to use 2" lift springs and get a fairly decent ride in the back. I would go with Tuff Country EZ ride springs. I put a set under my K5, 6" up front, and 2" with a 4" shackle flip in the back. It rides ok, but I keep my tires aired down a little. It's not a daily driver.
!/2 ton and 3/4 ton springs share the same springs, so you won"t need to order something special running the 14Bolt and D-44. You will need to order U bolts to fit around the thicker 14 Bolt. Go to Ruff Stuff, ORD or DIY4x and they can sell you complete ubolt sets including a top plate to match the bigger ubolts. Your ubolts from the front axle should fit the D44, but I would recommend replacing them, as well.
You should not have to worry about lengthening your rear drive shaft. It should be OK. It's the front drive shaft that may need to be lengthened. This can be done by a driveline shop. shouldn't be too expensive to retube the driveshaft that you have now.
Read up on pinion angles, because you are going to need to shim your axles to compensate for the lift. This is not hard, but you need to get it right to avoid undue strain on the drivetrain and vibrations caused by binding ujoints.
Other than that, you will need a conversion ujoint to mate your driveshaft to the 14bolt.
ORD has a lift kit package that they can customize to your needs. I would call them and see what they can do for you. If they would have been offering the kit when I lifted my K5, I would have gotten it from them. I used their shackle flip and am happy with it.
Good Luck!!

haha that's awesome, i'll definitely let you know man. i didn't know anyone else active on ck5 was from CT. where in southington was your house? also, teach me to weld....my brother has a new, unused miller welder....with gas and wire.

i was really thinking about the shackle flip, it sounded like a pretty good option, is there a good, easy way to get rear 2" lift springs and front 6" lift springs? also, i got the spring top plates off the parts truck, so that won't be a problem either.

i'll definitely look into ORD more closely, though

figured i'd ask before i run into any trouble - would i need to move the crossmember to support the transfercase? it would be further back due to having to use the spacer for 700r4-np205, so i think i might need to, but i really don't want to if i don't have to. figure i'd ask before i take it all apart
