What have you guys done to your driveshafts with a 6" lift ? I am working on a 79 K5 with a procomp lift on the front, and a shackle flip from teraflex with their shackles on the back with blocks. The thing sits right but my concerns for the drivelines have got me nervous.

i put a 6inch onto 2 k5 blazers and one suburban. the suburban with a th400/np208 set up the front driveshaft was to short for some reason. it separated. i just went to my pile of driveshafts and found one that fit but never had any problems with any of the rear ones

I too would like to know what people are doing/have done. I'm taking a 6" lift out of a buddies K5 & putting it in mine. His truck appears to be using the stock driveshafts, extended out so much the splines are showing on the rear slip yolk. A friend of mine has suggested seeing if a stock driveshaft for a shortbed pickup would be about right, haven't measured yet since all my extra driveshafts are out of longbeds trucks & suburbans.

You'll probobly need new shafts.

You have a couple options.
1)Have yours extended
2)Find some longer ones in a junkyard and have them shortend
3)Have new ones built

I've do #'s 1 and 2. The cheapest is number 2. Any driveline shop should be able to do the necasary mods.

Thank you for helping me.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think I will see if they seperate when i jack up one whell at a time. If so maybe the pickups at a salvage yard will be my savior.

You will need to jack up the whole front or rear to let the whole axle out all the way.
Count in some axlewrap and they should still engage an inch I think.
When you have the front axle hanging all the way down you should also spin the front driveshaft by hand and you will notice if the CV joint likes the angle or not :wink1:
Otherwise :grind: the ears a little til it spins ok.
And do NOT forget to check that the shafts are short enough for full compression with some axlewrap there too.

My 89 has 6 inch of lift . the Previous owner did nothing to the shafts. The front sagged as it wore the teeth ot of the slip shaft. and the rear was way out of angle and was riding poorly in the slip yoke on the 241. It also caused the seal to leak at the 241.

I bought the SYE kit for the 241 and ordered new drive shafts from tom woods. LOVE EM.

thanks ronnie

I will do that tonight. I think i will use the winch to compress the front and check for bind issues.
