i read in a mag that chevy made a 14bolt 6lug. just wondering what all years i would be looking for and how common one would be to find?? and if it would bolt right in to my 85 k5?? i like the wheels and tires i have and would rather go this route than having to get 8 lug wheels. thanks

semifloater, alot of 88-98 trucks used them, spring perches need to be changed but i think width is perfect, lots of info on here, just do a quick search you'll find plenty.

Wow. Thats freaking great news. I'm all about upgrading axles, but didn't want to loose my rallies.

Would a 6 lug 14 bolt take what I throw at it? (nothing insane, a 4'' of lift and 33'' or 35'' tires) I assume it will

yes, it will hang. Make sure you find one out of a 4x4, the 2x4 ones are too narrow and will not work. The 4x4's are wide enough so they work.

Do a quick search for 14 SF and you will find a few posts on the subject. You can disk brake them, Lock them, and even if you find a 8 lug Semi Floater you can convert it to 6 lug by replacing the axle shafts. If you want you can even get 6 Lug alloy axle shafts from Superior. The earlier 81 and up 3/4 ton suburbans had 6 lug SF axles.
I've been running a 6 lug SF for years with a locker and 37's.

What are you using for a disk brake kit? I see TSM (expensive) has a kit for the disk brakes w/ slide over rotors, but only for 16" wheels. It also appears that this conversion has been a problem for some members when I searched here. I have been looking into this a bit since have access to a super cheap 14 bsf - 8 lug with the gears that I want. I would like to keep the 8 lug and get a new 15" wheel. Can you just grind a bit?

I ran TSM's setup initially which run the smaller Monte Carlo front rotors. I think the price was comparable to what is out there today. I am now running Ruff Stuff's setup which has the bigger calipers. The Monte Calipers stopped me OK on 33's but when I moved up to 37's I could tell the difference.

Go to TSM's site http://www.tsmmfg.com/two_different_rear_axles_6_Lug.htm They sell 2 versions depends on BackSpacing. I'm sure I ran the 3" version. They talk about 6 lug but the older 8 lug axles are the same. I had plenty of clearance on my 15" rims. I now run 16" rims.
The SF and FF axles have the same tube diameter and mounting flange for the Disk brake setup. There may be others out there that sell the brackets that use the smaller brackets and rotors.

Thanks...I didn't know the SF and FF would be the same. The SF axle that I'm looking at is from a '90 Burb.

After looking at the TSM website a bit more, looks like the replacement parts for the 14b SF (8 lug) are the same as the 14 FF.
