6 lug hubs for 14 bolt

Is a 6 lug hub for a 14bolt ff common? Is it an aftermarket specialty item? Just curious cos I really like my wheels and tires and don't want to get rid of either! Is it a whole axle? Or a splined hub, by the way?

No, not common at all.

There is a member here who took a regular 8 lug bearing hub and machined it down to fit the 6 lug wheels and redrilled the holes, too. Can't remember who it was though.

How hard is it to machine down the 8-lug bearing hub and redrill the holes?? Can you do this without removing the axle shafts?

Did one my self this week, I turned the hubs down on a brake lathe for mine and had a local shop bore the hubs out for 6 bolt. The shop also truned the axels down to match.

What is your total estimated cost for the conversion to 6 lug?

My Chevy isn't broken, its just out of gas.
 
I'm getting ready to dig myself into a 14 bolter!!!! When you bored out the hub did you have to fill in the other holes? Is there room for fourteen holes on the hub? And what'd it cost? kinda, sorta, give or take a few bucks?

i cant believe he went to all that trouble to save the ugliest wheels made
you can buy those in 8 lug for next to nothing
 
At this pont I have 200 in the axel, 40 in spring pads. 20 in new 1/2 wheel studs and 100 for the hubs to be milled out for the 6 bolt patern. pluss about 4 hours of my time on a auto parts brake lathe. I just did not want to buy 7 new wheels 7 new tires, plus the cost of changeing over the front to 3/4 ton hub and junk.

Turned the bar upside down then used both the bit for the drum and one for the disc to get the cuts

He was using that wheel as sort of a display with out showing exactly what was done.I dont blame him .Myself and others asked to see it w/out the wheel but he said no.

Well I tell you what its not a big thing and there is no real money to be made here. My camra is out being fixed as sone as it gets back which is friday I hope I will take photos and post them. I reused the disc that I had on the warn kit and fited the out side of the hub to the wheel which is a about 4.175 in dia. The inside is 4.168 the studes are 1/2 2.75 long. We talked about the hows and why and I tryed to talk to Dorean but got nothing. The hub centers up very nice in the bearing races on the lathe by the way.

That makes sense to me. As far as Im concerned, 3/4 ton front end stuff is junk. Its just a 1/2 ton axle with extra weight added by the heavy rotor/hub assembly. One good thing I have heard about it over 1/2 ton is braking ability. I guess they have better calipers or something.

I think you did the right thing Ken, plus thats one trick mod. Dare to be different.
