6\" spring question removing leafs adding zero rate??

OK trying to soften up some 6" Rancho springs. Is it a good/bad idea to remove couple of leaves and replace with a 0-rate? Will this work and keep about the same height?

Thanks

Re: 6\" spring question

Not sure how old they are they are on a K5 my buddy just bought he was told they were Rancho. They are stiff /forums/images/graemlins/yikes.gif

They may wear out faster but I doubt it, you can try just the bottom leaf and see how much it helps and then go from there.

Another member on this site told me that when he removed the very bottom leaf from his 6 inch pack, it rode a bit better and that it lowered it just a hair. Probably an less than an inch.
I'm planning on doing the same with mine to get a smoother ride and to drop it a little bit.

cool trying to keep it at the same height so remove an inch of springs prolly 2 /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif and add a zero rate to move the axle forward cause the front driveshaft only has about 1/2" of compresion /forums/images/graemlins/yikes.gif

Re: 6\" spring question removing leafs adding zero rate??

Just FYI, I've already broken a 6" TC front main leaf. The only mod I did to it was open up the spring clamps.

anybody know which spring or springs are the best to remove?

take off the top leaf, then every second leaf after that until you got the hieght you want /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Re: 6\" spring question removing leafs adding zero rate??

I would start by taking out the shortest leaf.

im happy with the 3rd longest... you dont wanna take the second longest and risk snapping the main leaf, and i dont think anything down bottom does much to stiffen the ride, so leave them

Um, the shorter the leaf the harder it is to bend. Start with the shortest and work your way up.
