60 vs. 14 bolt?

Just as the topic says. I want to get specs of both axles.

14 bolt
Corp 14FF complete axle w/ disc brakes: 400#
Corp 14FF complete axle w/ drum brakes: 475#
Distance from center of axle tube to lowest housing point?

close as you can. I'm not so qorried about the 14 bolt. I have my shaved 14 bolt I can measure. Stock 14 bolt number would be nice.

just measured my stock 14 bolt ff. lowest point i say 7" that's with a tape measure and a steel rule flat against the bottom of housing to measure.

I can probably measure my stock rear 60 tomorrow. I know its around 65" wms-wms, but that is about it. That and it's not staying in my truck for long.

I don't know the numbers, but I know the D60 rear that I sold a while back didn't weigh all that much. Probably close to that of a 10b, maybe just a bit more with the larger drums etc. As for the measurment.. wouldn't it pretty much be the same as a D60F? The housings are the same right?

OK, went outside and got some measurements for ya...

dana 60 rear, stock in my '69: approx. 5-1/4" from center of axle tube to bottom of diff. Axletubes are 3" in diameter.

for comparison, my '78 dodge d60 front measures around 6-1/2" from center of axle tube to bottom of diff. I am not sure why this is so different from the rearend /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif maybe I measured wrong. Axletubes are larger, at 3-1/8" diameter.

For what its worth before any specific specs are put up I've had a d60FF and a 14FF side by side, the 60 is manageable by one person the 14ff is definately a 2 person job, I'd guess the 60 weighs around 75-100lbs less...

The axle shafts on the 60 look like twigs compared to a 14ff, the diff housing is probably 3" shorter than the 14ff ground clearance wise.....if you're building a light rig, the 60 is plenty....

14ff is definetly heavy, I did mine by myself but used some furniture moving equipment to get it into place!

I've installed a 14 bolt by myself before. Truck was just tall enough that with 29" tires I could easily roll it under there and then muscle it side to side.
