Building a 76 k-5 blazer. installing 63" rear springs, with a diy shackle flip, and 6" shackles. Does anyone have any experience with this set-up? And, have there been any problems with axle wrap, due to longer springs/shackles?

thanks, lyle

Same exact thing I run. Use at least a 4 leaf pack from a LD 3/4 ton or HD 1/2 ton. Don't remove the overload, and set your bumpstops to prevent negative-arching the springs. I haven't had any issues with mine after a few years.

Use something stronger than just flat strap for your shackles. They have too much bending stress at the ends if you don't add some web or something to them to distribute force.

I did a 63" with diy4x kit 6" cross ties shackles. Yea keep over load for sure! Problem with my swap was the leaf springs were so long that I had the shop relocate the rear front stock hanger to compensate the longer spring. Don't forget that you need room to mount your rear bumper on the frame. Also you will need to grind down the "Hump" in the frame to mount the shackle flip kit flush to the frame. I'm working on my build thread. Keep your eyes peeled and good luck!

I just finished mine up, honestly, I'm considering a torque ARM in my future. The wrap isn't bad, but with bigger tires and rompin on it in the dirt and and getting traction here and there I just want to limit it as much as possible. Also to note I haven't been off road with it, only been street driving it lately

The thing with 63s is they are on lots of trucks with no issues, but they aren't really put through the torture we will put them through.

Now I have a newer truck with long springs and it wheel hops bad when it gets traction as a daily driver

Kind of depends on the wheeling you do, mine hops terrible in sand, but only if I really get on it ( only from a start I don't have enough power to break em loose while moving)

Rocks I am usually just dandy but if I need to spin the tires to heat em up or to get the rocks cleaned off a bit, it can become a detriment.

Mud never really had an issue but like I said not alot of power.

I plan on putting an antiwrap bar on sooner than later.

Like has been said leave the overload and it helps

I've got a LD 3/4 ton with one spring removed and the overload flipped. No wheel hop, decent flex. It didnt flex at all with all the springs in and the overload in the proper orientation.

If I ever build another square body I'll be swapping some 63's in.
