So I finished my DIY4X shackle flip with 64"s in the rear a few weeks ago and i started on the fronts last week. I used the DIY rear shackle hanger and the DIY front hangers (not B52) with DIY shackles. I got them all installed yesterday but i ran into a problem. the shackle is hitting the trans crossmember. I notched the crossmember about 1 1.2" so when its sitting it does not touch. when if compress the springs i know it will touch. any suggestions?

wtf you are putting 64s on the front of your rig? thats a whole nother can of beans.

post some pics

How in the world are you gonna get that to work?
it's going to move our front axle rearward, plus you'll have the problem your describing.
56's in the front are really about the extent of what can be done, at least reasonably.
I say go for it! But, it's gonna be a lot of work with probably not a lot of gain over 56's.

minimum of around 4" extension of the front of the frame rails to move the spring hangers farther out the front.

just do 52 or 56 springs or go 3-4 link then. 64 in the front a waste of time if you ask me.

well i already installed them so i would like to just see it through now. i dont think it will take much figuring to get it to work

i hope your planning a panhard... that thing is gonna push push and slop all over with those long springs.

there was a thread about this on pirate. trying to find it

this sums it up.

Quoted for truth, don't get sucked into the whole deal that "more flex = a more capable rig".

63" springs up front is absolutely ridiculous. a 56 would be more then enough length and give you just as much flex but with less modification and trouble. a 52 is sufficient for any kind of wheeling...if you need more, go 4-link.

The longer springs will flex more but they will have much more axle wrap and will significantly affect clearance. I run 52's in the front (four link in the rear) and I hit my front springs ALL the time.

I have all the flex I could want, 64's would be awful in the front IMO.

Hell, I get wrap from my front 52's, if this isn't enough flex for you you're doing it wrong :flipoff2: (before I linked it, 52's front and rear, 42" IROKs for reference)

i was planning on running 56s at first but i already have it all set up, so i really dont want to waste all the work iv done and go to 56s. anyway to make this work?

research, research, research

then measure twice and cut once.

i would personally cut my losses and go for the 56's.

If you go for the 63s you are going to have bad axle wrap, lateral movement in steering to the max, approach angle cant be good with the springs hanging out front.

so your gonna need a bar to stop lateral movement, and a bar for axle wrap. With all that might as well make a 3 link.

The springs are much stiffer than the 52s i ran before so im hoping it wont be to squirrely. maybe some bumpstops will help

i already have an anti axle wrap bar in back so i will just link it to the front. i could go linked but i dont want to put another $800 in coilovers and links

Speaking from experience -- A poorly designed / cobbled together suspension makes for much less fun while wheeling. Spend the money now and do it up right the first time. You will be taking it apart to do it again later, no need to spend even more money doing it twice.

alright i might as well just go with 56s. i can still use my rear hangers i just bought. I Will just have to patch the holes in my frame now and move them up.

sweet, i just found a pair for $50. Hopefully i can see the 64s for what i bought them for.

I had some Dodge springs that were 60" long up front on my blazer but I had moved all the mounting points below the frame, only really way to do it without major surgery because of the issues you are having. But they were offset so I still had about the same approach angle as I would have had with a set of 52s or 56s. They flexed like mad, didn't wrap really bad (they still had wrap though) and were pretty cheap.

Its not worth moving the mounting points. IMHO I had ridiculous flex with this setup actually too much for leaf springs. The axle moves all over the place with alot of flex and leafs.

Alot of flex will make a trail easier but the 52s or 56s give enough flex as it is.

You would have probably been fine with the 64s up front but the diminished approach angle and the extra stuff you have to do to fit them is probably not worth it in the long run.

you could possibly run a boomerang type shackle if you decide you still wan to go the way of the 64"s
