Ok, so I found some cool tow hooks and thought I could use them on my 71, but it turns out they are not the right versions. (I got 68-69). Does anyone have pictures of what a factory 68-69 tow hook looks like mounted on the truck?

The one picture I found looks like it mounts backwards from the 71-72 version. It looks like hooking a strap to them would not be as secure since the hook "points" toward the front of the truck instead of the rear. If I try and attach these to my truck the same way the later versions do, I'll have to cut the bumper a bit to make them fit the same.

If you follow these things at all, you'll know how un-fun it will be to find some proper 1971 tow hooks (i.e. $$$:().

There's been alot of discussion about em over on the 67-72 board.

Do a search there and you'll be able to find your answers with pics included.

I've had a set for years and have yet to install them on anything due to the fitment issues your talking about.

I'd like to see pics of the hooks in question.....

Actually, I'd like to see pics of the various 1st Gen versions if you locate them.

You guessed it, I'm too lazy to do my own research on this one. Must be all the fiberglas splinters I've been inhaling and wearing lately......makes me not want to move any more than necessary!

Let me ask a NOOB question, I get the impression that the original tow hooks are sought after. Why?
Are they better than aftermarket hooks? Or is it about having the factory original authentic hooks?
What confounds me is that I can understand people wanting all original parts, but only if their truck is pretty or original. Most people who I see talking about the original hooks have already made everything else on their truck Ghetto.

The original tow hooks are sought after because they were a relatively rare factory option. I've yet to actually see a pair of factory tow hooks in person.

The reason I'm after them is the look when they are on the truck is much cooler than just standard bent rod type hooks you get at Kragens.

I want a set because they are BEEFY, stock-style, and will look good on my rig. I plan on welding the nuts on the bolts when I do install a set though. It is going to take some work to get them off of there. I hear some people starting to have issues with them getting stolen.

If you ever get to see a set of them you will understand why everybody wants them. Lately they have been selling around $250-$275 for the pair.

Actually $275 would be a steal for the 71 versions. That's about what I paid for the more common 68-69 versions which I'll sell if I can find the correct ones.

One of the things I like about the 72 ones is I think that they go with the "fang" fender line. Just my .02

Actually, I think the 72 versions are similar to the 71 right? They definately do look like big fangs which is one of the reasons I'd like to find some.
