My sons best friend calls me.

I bought a 69 Suburban, it doesn’t run, and I got no place to store it.

He was pretty happy I told him to bring it our place.

It a X forestry rig that’s in rough shape but is mostly all there and depending on what he wants to do with it it could be restored or just a really cool bush truck.

It’s a 350 guessing a Sm420 actually I never even looked at the transfer case yet. 3/4 ton axles/ drum brakes all around. Big PTO Winch on the front. No interior. Oh it was on propane.

The sub showed up on a ramp truck, Po is a tow truck driver I think it was his tow truck.

According to the PO it hasn’t run in quite some time.

About 2 hours after it was dropped off they had it running off a propane bottle hooked directly to the mixer. Lol! The brakes don’t work and we all ran out of time for it. So we parked it for now.

Here is some pictures of it.

Great score !

If it has the correct trans and case for a 1969 model year it should be a SM465 & 205 ( Dana 20 was used on some stripper models ) as the SM420’s last year of use was 1967 and the Timken case’s last year was 68.

Very cool ride !

All seem so to be fairly unmolested so in sure you are correct. Thanks! Much better running gear than I had anticipated.

Should be a 465 and a rockwell 221 transfer case. Thats what was in my dads 1969 K20.

I could be wrong but I was of the understanding that the Rockwell ( some GM literature called it Timken ) case was last used in 1968 due to the NP205 coming out in 1969.
I guess that there could be “leftover” parts from the previous model year that were used before the assembly lines made a running change.

Interested in seeing what this one has in it ?

I have a 1969 K20 suburban almost that same color. It definitely has a Rockwell 221 transfer case and I'm pretty certain a 420 trans. It also has an Eaton rear axle with leaf springs. The PO did not change anything drivetrain related. It was used as a plow truck previously so it might have gotten some heavy use. It's inside for the winter but I'll get some pics in spring. Only have this crappy one for now. IMG_20150318_230954737.jpg

Max02. When you crawl under your suburban check out the front axle. Mine looks like a Dana 44 with king pins, drum brakes and closed knuckles. I'm thinking yours should be similar.

Spencer, the kid that owns the sub gave it to me, he doesn’t have time for it. I don’t either but I’m not going to get rid of it or sell it. It can sit here, that’s fine with me, I got room for it.

Spencer got diagnosed with MS a few months ago! He so young same age as our boy Colby that had testicular cancer!! Wtf! These kids are in the early 20s!

My kid is ok Spencer I hope will be fine. But sub is I’m my hands for now. Hopefully I can do something with it this winter.

The health problems for the 2 young men is definitely a "WTF??!!!"
Glad that your son is well, hoping the best for Spencer.

Gald that you are holding onto the sub.
