I have a 1996 K2500 with the 7.4 liter 454. I just had to replace the fuel pressure regulator. To accomplish this I had to remove the upper intake to get to the fuel rail and fuel pressure regulator. The only way to get the upper intake off is to remove the EGR tube that goes from the intake down to the manifold on the driver side. After doing research, I found that these freaking suck to get off. I ended up destroying the tube to get the intake off. I have heard of deleting the EGR and plugging the ports, but I don't want to spend money on a new tune to have it run right and having this matters in my area with emissions.

My question is, where can I get a replacement tube for this? Most of the auto parts stores don't seem to have them (from my online search). Is this strictly a dealer part? Anybody with experience with this, please let me know.

My rig at least starts better and doesn't smell like burning fuel now :D, but the bad exhaust leak sounds b/c of the missing EGR tube is really annoying. Any insight would be nice. Thanks!

Unless Dorman lists one,its likely a dealer only part...

My friend has battled those EGR tubes on many vehicles, especially Fords, that have one joining both heads at the rear of the engine..sucks getting at the bolts or bolt (some have only one bolt,on a diamond shaped flange!)--often the bolts break in the head too, creating a real dilema!--pulling the head off or the engine out is the only way to fix that in most instances..

...he has "deleted" a few of the EGR tubes by using the original flange and putting a metal"knock out" disc from a electrical outlet box over the port, then re-installing the flange--a customer told him he used a nickel on each side on a Mustang GT to block off the EGR ports and he left the EGR tube intact,so it "looked" factory..he left the inspection worries to the owners, they were not concerned about emissions, they just wanted their vehicles to run and quietly again..

One method he has found useful when dealing with these types of EGR tubes,is instead of trying to unbolt one,he uses his air powered cut off saw to cut it in half where its a bit easier to reach in the middle of the engine..then when he needs to re-assemble it,he cuts out a small section and uses a compression fitting that fits the tubing good to re-connect the two pieces..the factory would have done mechanics a favor if they did this to start with!..

If you do delete and plug? The PCM needs to be re-flashed to turn EGR off. Not just the check engine light, the EGR system needs to be disabled.

Hope you find your part...

Thanks, yeah I found one today at the GMC dealership. That part is freaking expensive. I thought about deleting it but found that deleting it would make it so I couldn't pass the visual inspection for emissions (yes, I live in a freaking county that has emissions). So decided to bite the bullet and purchase the new part. Just put it on tonight and the rig is back up and running great.

lots of copper anti-sieze on the tube were the nut is and also the threads . . . . so if /when you need to pull it apart again you can .
